Not sure if anyone has seen this, but the NFL finally published their rule book online. I've been wanting to read it for years, but only media had access to it. For certain there are more than just a few of you who want to pour through it.

Rulebook said:
In preseason and regular season games there shall be a maximum of 15 minutes of sudden death with two time outs instead of three. General provisions that apply for the fourth quarter will prevail. Try not attempted if touchdown scored. If there is no score in the 15 minutes, the game shall end in a tie.

What?!

Somebody just mentioned that the rule book as posted is incomplete. The Tuck Rule is not represented anywhere in it, and the partial grasping of a facemask is only a 5 yard penalty.

15 yard penalty

A punter, placekicker, or holder who simulates being roughed by a defensive player.

Yeah, this isn't the entire rulebook. It's sort of like the Cliff's Notes online version.

The lack of a complete rulebook available to the public is why some still insist there's a hint of shadiness when it comes to officiating.

The "tuck rule", for example. Since the public had never heard of such a dumb rule and since it's never been published anywhere for the fans to see, there are still some conspiracy theorists who insist the rule was invented spur-of-the-moment to screw the Raiders over.

I still can't think of any good reason why the NFL rulebook is not available for purchase. The NFL is a money machine and you know the full rulebook, thick as it may be, would be purchased by rabid fans.

So why would the league not sell a product that a) they know they'd profit from, and b) would boost the league's integrity among the cynical?

I would buy a copy in a heartbeat.

The Tuck Rule, fwiw, is NFL Rule 3, Section 21, Article 2, Note 2. The media and other outlets have access to the full rule book in it's entirety. Gregg Easterbrook tried to make a hotlink to it once, but it wouldn't work. Unsure if ESPN or NFL prevented the link from working.

First of all, as has been mentioned, that isn't the complete rule book. And secondly, the entire rule book has been posted online before. (I've posted the link here before, too.)

Here's one link for the 2008 rule book -- http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?nyozwuubrz3
