TO was face guarded and the Refs screwed us again!

http://www.4nflpicks.com/NFL Rules.html

(a) If neither player is looking for the ball and there is incidental contact in the act of moving to the ball that does not materially affect the route of an eligible player, there is no interference. If there is any question whether the incidental contact materially affects the route, the ruling shall be no interference. Note: Inadvertent tripping is not a foul in this situation.
(b) Any eligible player looking for and intent on playing the ball who initiates contact, however severe, while attempting to move to the spot of comple tion or interception will not be called for interference.
c) Any eligible player who makes contact, however severe, with one or more eligible players while looking for and making a genuine attempt to catch or bat a reachable ball, will not be called for interference.

Complete B.S.

Norm Hitzges claims face-guarding is now legal. I'd haven't heard it anywhere else.

I've always thought face guarding was legal in the nfl, as long as you DON'T touch the receiver. That means no incidental contact; no contact whatsoever. I know its illegal in college.

Face guarding is legal. That was not face guarding. He jumped into TO and pulled on TO's arms prior to the ball getting there. That is interference. If he was not making contact, then it would have been face guarding and would have been fine.

There is no such thing as face-guarding in the NFL, however the simple fact that the DB had his arms against Owens chest loooong before the ball got there should have drawn pass interference.

Greg Aiello, NFL vice president of communications:
"There is no such thing as face-guarding," Aiello said. "There must be contact to have a foul."

Contact was made and the rules above state the defender must be facing the ball.

Bills player was not facing the ball and he clearly intiated contact with TO.

clearly, and I would also like to see the rule as written for a push out. Owens had one foot down and it looked clearly like the other foot had a very good chance of coming down too and the defender pushed him out. It wasnt incidental contact or momentum, he pushed him. I bet we wouldnt have needed Folks kick if that had been called properly

Correct. This is getting silly.
