Heard this yesterday on Moving the chains. Kirwin brought up the idea for the NFL schedule. Says it would never happen, but pretty good idea, I think.

No more division games. Just NFC and AFC conferences. Basically teams are 1-16 (NFC), 1-16 (AFC).

They all play each other, so Dallas would play the 15 other NFC teams. They would then play 1 AFC team. This could be an instate game, say vs Houston every year or they could rotate the team each year.

So at the end of the year, every NFC team has played the exact same schedule minus the AFC team. At the end, the top 6 teams from each conf. make the playoffs. No more debate over easy schedule or a wildcard team having a better record than say a division champion (which could happen this year with the AFC West and AFC North).

Yeah, no. Division rivals are a good thing.

I realize people want to get out of the NFC East with the arrival of Wentz but long term it's a bad idea.

I do not like this one bit! You make a Giants vs. Cowboys game have the same meaning as a Cowboys vs. Rams game or Giants vs Lions game. Division games have extra meaning and to take that away would take even more interest away from the NFL. And their interest has dropped a bit as it is.

Correct. Owners would never go for it.
No added revenue in it for them.

Division rivals fill stadiums.

Dallas Cowboys as opponent fills stadiums.
