Dallas in NFC East survival mode
Posted: October 30th, 2008 | Adam Schefter | Tags: Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants
Last year’s Divisional Playoff between Dallas and New York was billed as All Pros vs. All Joes.
Sunday’s matchup lacks the catchy moniker, but not the divisional significance. If the Giants win, Dallas drops to 5-4 — with little hope of winning the NFC East.
Giants’ Pierce recalls last meeting with T.O.

Last time New York and Dallas collided wasn’t on a football field, but rather at the ESPYs in Los Angeles last July, when Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens handed the Giants the award for the “Best game of the year.”
The moment was more memorable than the award. Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce still was reveling in telling T.O. to step aside so he could accept the award on behalf of his team.

Coach Coughlin’s expectations

Tom Coughlin coaches the Giants, but has some strong feelings on what he expects to see from the Cowboys.
Coughlin thinks Cowboys injured tight end Jason Witten will play. He thinks injured cornerback Anthony Henry will play. And he thinks quarterback Brad Johnson is in the lineup to stay (for one game, at least).
High anxiety for rookie corners in Dallas

The focus in Dallas is as much on cornerbacks as it is its quarterbacks.
With Adam Jones suspended, and Terence Newman and Anthony Henry injured, the Cowboys are expected to start a pair of rookie cornerbacks, first-round pick Mike Jenkins and fifth-round pick Orlando Scandrick.
This will be the ultimate rookie challenge.
Cowboys aim to spoil Giants’ streak

Even a storied franchise like the New York Giants never has gone eight straight games without losing a fumble, as this team has.
The Giants fumble-less streak is the longest in the NFL since the Commanders in 2004.
