I remember Eugene the hitting machine Lockhart set a Cowboy record for tackles in a 3-13 season, 5 yards down field.I like Kendricks but having players leading the league in tackles just means your defense is on the field way too much.
Ok. And I wish him the best. But he hasn’t proven himself yet. My point was that LB may still be a big need going into 2025. Maybe not but in my mind counting Liafau as having a proven future is a little early. They literally drafted Liufau to take over at mike.
yeah, didnt Eugene Lockhart get crazy tackling #'s every year but it just meant the line couldnt stop anyoneThe annual Jaylon Smith award. Can be very misleading.
I will give Kendricks some credit part of the reason he has high tackle numbers is because he is instinctive and willing. More than can be said for some of our guys. He is a solid average player at this point in his career. Nothing wrong with that.
Or is it because no one else is making plays. So when you look at that list the thing that stands out to me is that all of these top players are on teams with defenses that are questionable at best. So are they leading the league in tackles because they are just playing the position so well or is it more due to the fact that the defense is on the field for extended drives leading to more opportunities to make tackles.
This is totally accurate and why that is not a great stat. I searched and could not find the clip of a drunk Pat Summerall saying, "Eugene, Eugene the Lockhart." when he made a tackle during a broadcast. I know I heard it. Not downgrading Summerall at all because he was awesome.I remember Eugene the hitting machine Lockhart set a Cowboy record for tackles in a 3-13 season, 5 yards down field.

Yup, that is what Pat Summerall meant to say. He just had a few too many. Been there, lol! I miss those broadcasts."the hitting machine"
