PHOENIX -- If you were hoping, as the Washington Commanders were, that they would come out here to the NFL owners meetings and be able to convince the league to give them back some of the $36 million in salary cap room it took from them last year as a penalty for the way they structured some contracts in the uncapped 2010 season, you can stop hoping. According to Mark Maske of The Washington Post, a recent series of discussions between the Commanders and the league went nowhere, and the league continues to hold firm in its refusal to reduce or eliminate the penalties.

I'm so curious to see how this turns out for the Skins.

With them being in call hell and also having mortgaged so much of their future for one player, they're going to have to find some real gems in the ater rounds of drafts.

Nice start last year in finding Morris so late, but you can't count on that every year.

The big "holes" remaining are clearly the entire secondary and at RT.

The offense I feel very confident about, regardless if RG3 or Kirk is at QB (granted much better with a healthy RG3)

Need to weather the storm next year, hope there is internal improvement by guys like Robinson, Paulsen, Young, Crawford, and that having a return to health by Orakpo, Carriker and Jenkins in his 2nd year back from ACL surgery helps the pass rush.

It won't be easy, but the team was playing with 1 hand tied behind its back last year.

The only loss thus far has been Lorenzo Alexander, a key locker room guy for sure and a big cog on special teams, but I am glad the Commanders chose to let him walk then re-structure and try and keep a 30 year old backup LB.

Lets see what happens with D-Hall. If you can bring him back, or say Antoine Winfield, on a 1 year deal, that is a win for me

They're missing their first round picks but still retain second and third round picks to add talent. Even with their successful later round choices, picks in rounds 2-4 should be quality depth or potential starters fairly early.

Regardless, the return of key players from IR and suspension will improve the defense. They should focus their picks in the draft on the secondary and offensive line.

Time will tell how St Louis does with all of those RG3 picks.

So far the tally is:
Michael brockers, DT
Janorious Jenkins, CB
Isiah pead, RB

still to come:
2013 1st round/22nd pick (maybe Tavon Austin
2014 1st round pick, tbd

Penalty is a bunch of bull. Mara should be punched in the face, and i hate the Commanders.
