Unless there is no choice for them they in my view are making a mistake. They need more time at the college level because their games are not there yet

I think that pretty much means their next football steps might be on Irvin's show next season.

I was hoping like heck we would have taken Jared Gaither in the 2007 Supplemental Draft. Baltimore got the 6'9"/330 lb offensive tackle in the 5th round. He is now their starting left tackle.

Draft Scout Blake Boyd News
06/16/09 - Linebacker Blake Boyd will not return to the WKU football team for the 2009 season due to academic issues and defensive back Ryan Beard has been suspended for the first two games of the season for a violation of team rules, Head Coach David Elson announced today. “Blake made significant contributions to our defense in many ways, and this is certainly disappointing news for our football team,” Elson said. “It will also be a challenge not having Ryan for our first two games against very strong opponents. However, adversity reveals character and this presents a tremendous opportunity for other players on our team to step up and fill the void. I feel very good about this football program in so many ways, and I am confident we will overcome these setbacks.” As a junior in 2008, Boyd started 11 games and ranked second among all Hilltoppers with 67 total tackles while leading the team in tackles for loss (9.5) and sacks (3.5). Beard, a freshman in 2008, saw action in 11 games with 10 starts and posted 41 total tackles and a team-high three interceptions. Beard will miss WKU’s opener at Tennessee on September 5 and home opener against South Florida on September 12 before returning to action against Central Arkansas on September 19. - WKU football

11/12/08 - LB Blake Boyd missed the last week's game because of a back problem and is day-to-day. But Saturday is Senior Day, so expect him to play. DT Jon Belcher is also day-to-day because of a back that caused him to miss last week's game.

11/07/08 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: There's not much you can say after you lose a wild one in the final seconds, but the Western Kentucky defense has tried to hang in against some very tough opposition. If ranked, Western Kentucky would be 90th against the run, 45th against the pass, tied for 72nd in total defense, tied for 84th in scoring defense and tied for 59th inside the red zone. All these numbers could take a hit against Troy this week. LB Blake Boyd led Western Kentucky with nine tackles, two for losses, and a pass breakup last week.

10/31/08 - LB Blake Boyd has 3.5 of the team's 14 sacks and the Toppers have eight sacks in the last three games.

09/27/08 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: The Hilltoppers didn't come out playing great offensively in the home opener against Murray State last week, but the defense got the job done. The Toppers picked off four passes, one by linebacker Blake Boyd, who returned his 25 yards for a touchdown. Boyd has five sacks among his 24 tackles.

I might take a flier on Murphy as a future PR in the 7th. He'd probably have to stick on the PS for a year then make a run at the roster in 2010.

yep murphy seems interesting, thats why i posted what i found out about him
and with 4.36 speed, he is pretty fast

another thing murphy is kinda short, something that is needed as a punt returner, most good punt returners are 5-11 or shorter

Mark me down as wanting Geiter at the time as well, I also wanted paul oliver but he hasnt turned out as well.

But I mean seriously, do any of you really think Geither would have come close to starting for us? He would either be buried on the depth chart or he would have been cut.

Being a WKU alum and a WKU season ticket holder, I've followed Boyd's career since he transferred to WKU. He's entering the draft because he didnt' make the grades to return for his senior year. Boyd is a VERY physical LB and a very good player. However, I'm not sure he has the speed to make it in the NFL. I hope so, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
