I saw it mentioned earlier on twitter, but forgot to get the teams. It's probably the Jaguars or somebody. I remember the date was in October.

So they trot this gamer out in hoping kill the idea of webcasts????

I imagine it's a trial run to gauge fan interest and determine what revenue models are there to allow for streaming games full-time. Might as well do it for a game like Bills-Jags.

That's what I was thinking but I wonder what DirecTV thinks of the NFL putting out their own product to compete with a package they've paid an arm and a leg for.

I wonder if they are going to build it up each year until the DirecTV deal expires. I can't imagine DirecTV is going to be able to continually offer more and more money in future contracts with so many people cutting the cord. With so many different options for streaming coming online, it's possible that by the end of the current deal there are full service packages widely available to stream.

The NFL didn't have the infrastructure to deliver Sunday Ticket on their own, but with streaming capabilities solving that issue they can cut DirecTV out of the equation and keep all the money for themselves.

In 2013 Bloomberg estimated that 2 million people have the package, which means it has a ton of room to grow. If they dropped the price for their own version of Sunday Ticket to $100 without a contract, I'd bet they'd see subscriptions sky rocket.

They're thinking bigger than that. People will come across that webcast, think, "Dear Lord, what have we wrought?" and, by universal consensus, shut down the internet for good.

It's been nice knowing all of you.

if only that were true. can you imagine the thud you would feel when the earth comes to screeching halt and the cries of anguish would actually be heard world wide.

Don't they live stream Sunday Night games on NFL.com?

The difference here is that it will be web only in the US unless you live in Jacksonville or Buffalo markets. This game will not be a part of the Sunday Ticket package, just like last year's Atl/Det game wasn't. Only difference is the method of distribution.

Btw I realized this game will air at 330am HST. Will I have the motivation to wake that early in order to watch Buf/Jax?

( The answer is yes, because I'm sick like that.)

I think this would be a pretty good idea. I really wish they would stop the exclusivity of Sunday Ticket on DirectTV. Im sure every network would pay a fortune, even if it is smaller individually than the DirectTV deal, I bet they would increase the revunue overall. If DirectTV doesn't like it, fine. Let every other cable provider except them offer the service and see how it works out for them. I hate DirectTV, but would love to get Sunday Ticket. I bet the subscribers would more than double if it was available through all providers.

NFL still values its relationship with CBS and FOX. They don't want ratings of the local affiliates to be cannibalized by ST being available to all cable companies.
