From what this is saying, they are not going to reduce the total number of ads. They are just experimenting to see if the viewers prefer fewer commercial breaks with more ads or more commercial breaks with fewer ads.

The changes are not expected to shrink ad times - except perhaps on the NFL Network Christmas Day game - but will alter how many ads are in a break, and how many breaks there are. The experiment could reveal whether fans would want fewer but longer breaks, or more frequent but shorter ad breaks, a league source said.

What kind of trickery is this?!

I didn't really read it, just skimmed through. Basically, the same amount of commercial time but in a deceiving way :banghead:

Seems that way. Although, I could possibly be for fewer but longer breaks depending on how it actually breaks down.

But for the life of me, I can't imagine anyone wanting more breaks than we have now. Regardless of the fact that there are fewer commercials during those breaks. In my opinion, that would be worse than what we have going now.

I guess we'll see once they start experimenting though.

They changed the game permanently when CBS got football back over a decade ago

They added so much commercial time to make up for the increased fees that they had to shorten the actual game to stay in the 3 hour window.........they couldn't go to 12 minute quarters so they went to the running clock......even when a player goes out of bounds the clock starts as soon as the ball is set in place.....this is until 2 minutes left in the 1st half and 5 minutes left in the game.....it saved around 5-8 minutes without reducing commercials

That is when they added the rules to help the offense.....they had to keep scoring up even with 20 less plays so more PIs and Defensive Holding.......now Challenges and replays are adding more time and more commercials so they are willing to fiddle with things....if going to longer breaks but less of them is their answer that is just more of the same

TV makes all the rules

I always found it amazing that soccer leagues like the Premiership can make so much money, especially tv and advertising, from just commercials before the game and halftime... there probably are ways to make money other than a commercial every 5 mins. I'd rather see field ads if it meant less commercials

Did anyone notice a difference in the number/length of commercial breaks today?

I honestly can't say that I did.

It's sad that we live in such a commercially driven world. You can hardly open up your phone homepage without being solicited.

It does seem worse these day. I feel like I watch 12 minutes of football and 3 hours of commercials. Even after you get back from the commercial break they have the commentators trying to sell you on a new upcoming show or something of that sorts.

Make halftime a few minues longer. Less commercials during the game.

Better yet, make the last half hour of those stupid pregame shows all commercials.
