is it me? or should the NFL extend the trading deadline? why does it end so early in the season? after 5 games for most teams? imo it should end around week 12.

yea i agree with cowboy chris.. i think thats a major reason why there are no deals, the deadline is way too early, in other sports its later and thats why there are more deals because teams who are out of playoff contention can trade veterans for picks or younger players. With the deadline so early no 1 is out of playoff contention really... well except for oakland.

Until now, I've never been notified of when the NFL trade deadline is... It's just not that big of a deal. You may get one blockbuster deadline deal every blue moon, but for the most part it will be so and so gives yada yada backup DL for 7th round pick in 8 years.

We discussed this last year. You need to maintain competitive balance at all costs. Early in the season is when everyone still has a chance to win; part of what makes the NFL so great is that the league refuses to allow one team to become a farm team for another based upon owner alliances, etc.

Above all everyone wants to win. Building a winning team must be a fair process decided mostly in the offseason. How would you feel if late in the year Philly, smelling Superbowl, trades picks and cash to Arizona for Edge James? Arizona has nothing to lose and Philly has everything to gain.

The NFL isn't a league like MLB which laughs at its own trading deadlines-- it's wisely thought out rules that set the NFL apart and make it the success it has become.
