NFL Training Camp Joint Practices: Who Is Pairing Up With Cowboys?
(Good read)

http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2017...g-up-with-cowboys-rams-raiders-49ers-chargers

The Cowboys don't schedule joint practices every year, but they have done it frequently enough in the past that for Cowboys fans they have become a routine part of training camp. In 2014, the Cowboys held joint practices with the Raiders, and before skipping a year in 2013, had joint workouts with the Chargers in 2011 and 2012 when Norv Turner was still the head coach in San Diego. Before that, the Cowboys frequently had such joint workouts with the Broncos and Raiders.

In 2015, the Cowboys held joint practices with the Rams, but the first day of practice degenerated into extended brawls that ultimately led to the cancellation of the second day of scheduled joint practices.

When the Rams moved back to Los Angeles in 2016, they would have been the natural choice for joint practices, but Jason Garrett made it clear, in the most diplomatic terms possible, that there wouldn't be any further practices with the Rams until changes were made to the top of the Rams' coaching staff...

Historically, the Cowboys have always enjoyed good and spirited practices with the Raiders. They have proven productive and beneficial to both teams on several occasions. I'm really pleased to hear that these practice matchups are scheduled to resurface. It should prove mutually helpful to both teams with the desired results for their preseason preparations. I see it as a good pairing, just as it has been in the past. It's a good matchup.

I'd hate to be a bookie having to come up with odds on the number of fights...but those are productive during camp.

Wasn't Jeff Fisher the Ram's HC then?... he's gone.

With the front office changes in LA I'm not opposed to teaming up with the Rams any more. Really doesn't matter now who but I would like to see the Cowboys practicing against another team. JMO but it benefits them more than going against the same guys every day.

No doubt -- it's been quite traditional for that to occur every time. No reason for that to change. It'll be spirited, that's for sure.

I've always thought it amusing that the staff discourages such things while smiling slightly and proudly whenever it happens.

The thing you got to watch out for is your players getting cheap shots, that is usually what leads to fights.

You don't want some rookie DL player chopping Zach Martin on a running play.

Did the article say if the Cowboys will do join practice and if so with who? I skimmed it but I'm in a rush to go out. Would love to do join practice with the raiders this year. Both teams have high expectations, practicing with high quality opponent would be great for the young guys.

I'd rather do joint practices with the Raiders. Yea we play them, but it will give our defense a test

I was there for some of those early nineties practices with the Raiders. It was awesome. I recall Erik Williams punishing their DL.

There's no real tangible benefit to practicing with another team for a week.

the article listed an extremely tangible benefit. evaluation of talent (strength and weaknesses) improves when you have different player types matched up against our guys.

I would be careful with our proven starters, but allowing the younger roster bubble players to compete with different guys is going to be helpful.
