If playoffs are expanded there will be 6 teams playing on wildcard weekend and divisional weekend. One way is to have 3 Saturday games and 3 Sunday games and another way is to play 2 Saturday, 3 Sunday and 1 Monday games.

As a football fan, I would prefer the first option of 6 games on the weekend but other option isn't that bad either.

Becoming like the NBA and NHL where half the teams make the playoffs and only half are eliminated. Yeah, money is the root in all this and pro sports looking for more revenue every year. I guess pretty soon what Carolina did will be very common and if you get hot/lucky at the right time, SB here we come.

The Rooney's have already come out and said they are not in favor of playoff expansion. We know JJ is.

I'm glad they're expanding the playoffs. It's way too much of a advantage for teams that get a bye week followed by a home game in which you win and you're automatically in the Conference Champioship game.

Just look at the road the Cowboys would've had to travel and look at what Seattle had to do. Especially when Dallas beat Seattle head to head this year. No way a 12-4 team like the Cowboys should've had to play the schedule they had in the playoffs.

This has nothing to do with Goodell. I wish I could slam him again though but not for this :(

The question is can the league get extra money out of it? Is it a non trivial amount? Then its going to happen, its just a question of when.

I'm sure it's not possible, but if they insisted on expansion, I wish they would come up with a system like football/soccer where the best teams play multiple games to determine who advances instead of admitting sub-par teams to the playoffs.

I think that would work for the nba. Play like a 44 game season and just eliminate half the teams. Then the decent teams play another very short season. Then a small, tighter playoffs. Creates incentive to not tank bc if you miss out you only play half a season

So the new format would be:
1 Seed Bye
2 Seed vs 7 seed
3 Seed vs 6 seed
4 Seed vs 5 seed

The 7 seeds the past few years would be:
2014: Eagles 10-6, Texans 9-7
2013: Cardinals 10-6, Steelers 8-8
2012: Bears 10-6, Steelers 8-8

Basically one seemingly competent team will be getting in the playoffs and one crappy one won't. I won't be outraged either way, but I'll be happy to have more playoff football to watch.

I wouldn't want to be the team that wins Monday night then have to go on the road for a Saturday afternoon game. Too short a turnaround for the playoffs. It would be unfair, IMO.
