i emailed time warner about carrying NFLN and this was their response for those in the same boat as me, stuck with time warner.

Dear Mr. Kelly,

Thank you for contacting Time Warner Cable Email Support. At the end of this email, you will be
given the option of taking a brief survey.

I understand you want us to bring back the NFL network.

I apologize for the inconvenience caused and I will be happy to assist you.

Thank you for your inquiry into Time Warner Cable's offering of the NFL Network. Time Warner Cable
has made an honest effort over the past three years to reach a reasonable carriage agreement with
the NFL Network. Unfortunately, the NFL has refused our numerous offers to resolve this issue
fairly. Time Warner Cable remains interested in carrying the network on our digital sports tier, at
terms that would be fair to our customers. Unfortunately, we have received no recent indication from
the NFL that they are interested in negotiating such a deal. Time Warner Cable has made multiple
offers to the NFL Network in hopes of reaching a reasonable deal over the past three years. We?ve
received no recent indication from the NFL that it is open to such a deal. Unfortunately, it is not
likely that there will be an agreement with NFL Network this year.

The issue: The NFL is waging a campaign to try mandate Time Warner Cable to carry the NFL Network
and force our customers to pay for expensive sports programming that they may not want.

Time Warner Cable?s position: We have offered to carry the NFL Network on a Sports Tier. Customers
choosing to subscribe to the Sports Tier would have access to this programming at their choice.
Customers choosing not to subscribe to the Sports Tier would not have to pay for this expensive
programming.

The NFL?s response: The NFL, however, is still insisting that the network be placed on a broad-based
tier, which would result higher costs for customers who are not interested in NFLN. By refusing our
offer, the NFL is denying the public access to games that were once available on broadcast or other
more widely distributed networks.

Time Warner?s last proposal: To put the interests of fans first, Time Warner Cable submitted a new
proposal to carry the NFL Network on a Sports Tier or premium basis. This time, we proposed to make
the NFLN games available to our customers on a per-game basis, at a retail price set by the NFL,
with 100% of the revenue collected for this programming going to the NFL. While offering this with
no mark-up is far from ideal from our point of view, we are willing to take this step to make sure
no interested customer was unable to watch these games.

The NFL has rejected this offer too.

NFLN appeals to only a small segment of our customers and it is highly priced. We continue to
believe that the most appropriate place for NFLN is on a Sports Tier. When the NFL is willing to
compromise, we will resume negotiations.

Again, I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.

We value you as a customer.

Have a great day!

sounds reasonable but I'm sure there is more to it from time warners end

sorry if in wrong section

Btw, Time Warner is the worst Cable provider I have ever known, speaking from experience. Apparently from Sept 2nd they might be not having ESPN either. I suggest trying either AT&T Uverse or Verizon FIOS if you can get them as alternate.

i cant, apt complex choses the provider.

i think it was two years ago they were in a contact dispute with nbc and they were really close to not having nbc while the olympics were on. i was pissed just having the chance of not seeing the olympics

I have NFLN on Comcast and it doesn't cost me anything over my basic HD cable bill. Odd that the NFL is only trying to gouge Warner customers.

:fact:

They're just awful.

And this bogus line of "only a tiny percentage of people are interested in this channel" (featuring by far the most popular sport in America ) is classic Time Warner. So every customer wants those other 150 specialty channels?

Do anything in your power to get a satellite dish or some fiber network. Time Warner won't ever change, you can bet on that.

should i say anything back? i really hate that everybody has NFLN and i dont

That's been my problem with the cable companies forever. For some reason, they make a "sports tier," so why not make other tiers. There are so many channels I never watch, but still pay for. Why don't they make a "Lifetime" tier, or a "Financial" tier, or a even a "News" tier. That way, they could lower the basic cost, and provide more of an a la carte type of system. Maybe those channels are just that much less expesive for cable companies to carry, but I really doubt there in more demand.

AT & T and Verizon come through Phone lines and not cable. So not sure they can prohibit them. You might want to find out, if you can get AT&T or Verison FIOS.

our phone line(and internet for that matter) has to be through time warner as well, idk if that makes a difference

I hate that argument from TWC. There are quite a few channels that I pay for that I never watch and have no choice over.

i sent them a message back saying that football is the most popular sport in america and appeals to a larger demographic than the golf channel that they carry and suggested that they remove that channel from my line up and give me NFLN lol

Your not restricted from having DirecTv dish at your apartment. Trust me, I have been in your situation. You have a window, you can get directv.

I had one mounted on a box on my window for almost 2 years and never had an issue.

Now you will have to do it your self but it's not that hard.

i have to get a ten thousand dollar insurance policy if i get a dish, it is in my rental agreement. trust me i would have done that a long time ago.

If you one inside your apartment not visible to the outside and not permanently mounted to any foundation they cant force that any more then they can ask you take a insurance policy out for a pair of rabbit ears or a FM antenna.

I lived in NY City for 2 years, my apartment complex tried everything to keep dishes out of the apartments yet almost everyone caught on and did it. I made a killing setting people up. They tried legal action and failed miserably.

You wont be able to get HD. I'll PM you some details of how I did it. Really all you need to do is invest a little money and time into building a box large enough to get a clear view to your window and mount the dish.

Check out this site, it will tell you if you have the right view for it.

rkell, google around and you'll find this discussed a lot... There's actually an FCC law that they can't prohibit you from having a small dish (not sure about the oval HD one, that might be too big) in your area. Now they don't have to allow you to mount it to their building, but that's why you see dishes on tripods and so forth at apartments.

http://www.fcc.gov/mb/facts/otard.html

The dish has to face south, but you might be able to "see" the satellite out of your western window. It only takes a tiny line of sight for it to work.

Bottom line is that if you have line of sight, I'm sure there's some way to do it.

And edit, looks like sdogo beat me to it.

cool, i have never had a dish before i have no clue what to do on that site

they want to throw NFLN on sports tier and call that fair? they charge like $7 or more (not sure exact) for that sports tier. Do i wanna pay for any of the other sports channels on that sports tier? no, so how is that fair to me?

I would be willing to send TWC an extra dollar a month if that is what it takes to get just that channel, seems reasonable because that is more than what they are claiming NFLN wants per customer (think it is like 81 cents per customer nfl wants). They won't do that when they think they could fool us into paying for some sports tier.

they dont prohibit me from mounting one i just have to purchase a costly insurance policy to do so. my windows face north and west so that could be a problem.
