As far as I'm concerned this makes the NFLPA just as bad as anyone else if they're going to try and stand on the side that the guy should be able to play again right now. If they saw that video and they're going to turn a blind eye to it then they're no better than anyone in the NFL who did the same.

Hopefully even if he does win the appeal no team will sign him this season and make him sit out anyway.

They are obligated to represent him regardless of their collective feelings on the issue. You wouldn't blame a lawyer from representing a defendant.

Actually I often do question how people are able to sleep at night who are lawyers. Especially the ones defending a disgusting person whom they know is guilty. So, yeah, I kind of would in that I don't understand how they could possibily sleep at night and live with themselves with that type of knowledge.

Of course the ones who are defending people they're not really sure about, or they're certain are innocent, then of course I don't hold that against them.

They know Rice is guilty though. So that's totally different to me.

I can respect that, but someone has to do it.

Because if due process isn't afforded in ALL cases, then the whole legal system goes out the window. It's a necessary evil.

This isn't really about Rice, anyway. It's about the NFL completely throwing out the agreed-upon process. If they had given him the long suspension initially, there would have been no issue. But they handed out a 2-game suspension, and then when people started yelling at them, they arbitrarily changed the suspension. Just horrible practice and there's no way the NLFPA can let that be a precedent for future decisions.

Definitely dropped the ball on that one. The NFL never should have been so light with Rice.

As the players association, they would be negligent if they did not defend him. Their point is all the relevant information was available at the time, so you can't go from a 2 game suspension, to 16+. And I agree with that point. As an adult with common sense, I don't need to see the video to realize what happened in that elevator. Very inclosed space, doors open, one person unconscious. Should have been a 16 game suspension from the start. Goodell could've even gotten away with a 6 or 8 games suspension, considering that is a bit harsher than past domestic violence punishments in the NFL. I don't know if he saw the video, but it's at least clear that Goodell saw the release of the video as an opportunity to re do his poor decision.

This!

You cant say "Heres are the rules and this gets a 2 game suspension" then magically change it to a forever suspension, thus breaking the rules. Goodell thinks he can just willy-nilly break his own rules. no sir!

They aren't defending his guilt or innocence. Imagine if someone you know was convicted of a crime, and sentenced to 30 days in jail. Then 15 days in, the judge decides I messed up, make that 3 months in jail. Does that seem right?

I see the point. Doesn't change my view of things really though. I know and understand why these things are done the way they're done.
