Nichelle Nichols passes away at 89

Since the series is 55 years old its easy to forget how groundbreaking it was. It was one of the first to have a multiracial/multicultural crew, coupled with wonderful actors and actresses combined with the writing talents of Roddenberry, DC Fontana and others. The episodes still hold up today.

And of course, the first televised interracial kiss.

They were frequently doing social commentary, but disguised it as fiction, brilliantly.

Very sad, but she had dementia, and from what I've read, she was being taken advantage of by her son (IIRC), who had power of attorney.

I wish her last years were happy for her. A beautiful, talented, reportedly very good person, who gave a lot of hope and pride.

She once considered quitting Star Trek, but Dr. Martin Luther King talked her into staying.

RIP, Uhura.
It seems as though her siblings are saying it is some kind of partner that was working with her and took advantage of her.

Her son moved to take care of her and by that time, her business partner kind of ruined his reputation to make it look like it was her son that did the bad things.

One party is blaming the other but if Nichols’ family is defending her son, maybe he is innocent.

I hope that's true.

I appreciate the comments of the current actress, but to be blunt I cannot take any of the so called reboot ST seriously at all. Just rehashed storylines and nowhere near as good as the originals.

So true. Way ahead of it's time with a "flip & wrist watch communicator".
