Nick Folk-K- Cowboys Jul. 31 - 9:34 pm et

Cowboys K Nick Folk handled kickoffs Friday for the first time since undergoing hip surgery in early May.

Folk says the hip is feeling better than it was all of last year, and he felt fine after attempting the kickoffs Friday. He'll be 100 percent by Week 1.

Any idea if there were touchbacks?

Still holding out hope for only 1 Kicker. It is fleeting though.

Lets say the a game is at the half. The Cowboys just recieved a punt and they are on the 46 yard line after a fair catch. No time on the clock but the Cowboys have a FG opportunity.

Who gets a chance at the record, Buehler or Folk?

And Hos, how would you like it for it to be another record that the Cowboys would have, but yet be with a kicker? :D

TIM: Some fans in the end zone seats just sang happy birthday to Bobby Carpenter, who turns 26 today.

In more interesting pre-practice news, the kickers are kicking off for the first time in camp. David Buehler's first two went 2 yards and 6 yards deep in the end zone with good hang time.

8:42
TIM: Nick Folk just put one out of bounds at about the 6-yard line. The idea of a kickoff specialist seems pretty good right now.

8:44
Tim MacMahon: Another one 6 yards deep for Buehler. This is the first time we've seen him kick off from the 30, so I'll give kick-by-kick updates. Plus, I don't have anything better to do.

Nick Folk's directional kick comes down near the sideline at the 10. This is the first time he's kicked off since hip surgery.

8:46
Tim MacMahon: Buehler drilled a line drive that Kevin Ogletree caught 9 yards deep.

Folk's next kick went to the 4-yard line.

Disappointing kick for Buehler: only 1 yard deep in the end zone, but with good hang time.

Wow...the change in average starting field position is going to be staggering. Looks like Beuhler averages 5 yards deep and Folk averages 5 yards the other way.

I wouldn't punt the ball if it was going to give the Cowboys time to try a FG. But that's an evasion and unlike some I do not evade question.

First of all at the 46 yard line would not be a record. It would tie the record. They typically set the FG up 7 yards deeper than the LOS. That would push the ball to the 47 on the other side of the 50 and be a 63 yard attempt.

I care nothing about tying a record. In this case I care nothing about breaking a record. I know that sounds harsh, but that record doesn't mean a thing to me.

If you want to know the absolute truth the record I would be thrilled with for one of our kickers is consecutive FGs without a miss. I think the current record is owned by Mike Vanderjagt and is at least 40. I would like nothing more than to see Folk obliterate that drunken fools record.

That accomplishment is one I would be excited to see and that record is one I would be proud to have a Cowboys player own. Even if he's a damned Kicker.

On a "free kick" the opponent can't rush, so I believe the holder gets to hold it at the line of scrimmage.

Not the way I think a record should fall.

Like I said, that record wouldn't mean as much to me as Consecutive FGs without a miss. I looked it up. Vandercrack hit 42 in a row.

All these in the first kicks from the 30 at training camp? Is it wrong that I'm aroused??

Buehler ignites many emotions, feelings and responses. Just go with it.

No, his was 63 to tie the record of Tom Dempsey. Ola Krimm did for the Broncos, but that was pre-season and it doesn't count.

I thought the 7 yard thing went out several years ago with most now being 8 yards back, which would put it at 64. Though if you can kick from the LOS that'd only be 56 yards..unless he meant our own 46?

from the early reports of this draft class

I'm liking it:

Buehler is booming them kickoffs

Jason Williams is as fast and athletic as advertised

Victor Butler is a beasting on the field

Mike Hamlin is getting his hands on everything in sight

Mike Mickens has shown flashes

Brandon Williams is as fast as advertised

OK. So the attempt is in front of us at 64 or 65 yards. Who attempts it, Buehler or Folk?

I would have to say Buehler. Although he may miss, I believe that it would be wide left or right, but not short.

I think you can give up hope of that. I don't see Dallas spending a draft pick on a kicker when you already have a pro bowl kicker on the roster just to cut him.
