Nicks vs. DeCastro?

Was curious how they compare, etc. I know we can't project yet what Decastro will do/be, but I've seen handful of Stanford games and really like to know the difference.

I would love to add Nicks, he's all world, but to get the same player, or possible better player at 14 and a lot cheaper?

Of course this will take a lot of luck either way to get either one.

How do they compare?

As you say hard to compare a college kid to that of a Pro bowl player. I have seen some analyst compare DeCastro to Steve Hutchinson which is pretty high praise

It's very difficult to compare for the very reason you mentioned above. Decastro may be an excellent prospect but it's still a question as to what he will be in the NFL. Nicks is an established STUD at the NFL level. DeCastro is a mere question-mark albeit a good one as an NFL player.

Get both and have the most dominant o-line in the league for 5+ years.

Get one, and Bill Nagy is a starting guard for Dallas after being a backup at Wisconsin.

If you had your choice today, on the clock, and Nicks agent on the phone. Big payday eating cap for one guy, and going with a guard with a top 15 pick. What do you do?

On the clock as in the day of the draft? If that is the case it would depend who is still on the board. I like Kirkpatrick as well so I take him and sign Nicks. If Kirkpatrick is off the board I likely go with DeCastro

Nobody will agree with me, but I'd draft DeCastro to play center. It's what he played in high school, he's got amazingly quick hands coming out of his stance, and it's a major need position for this team. This is a deep guard draft and there are some good options in free-agency to pick up your guard.

You're right.

Nice but I don't see that happening.

Nope.

I'm thinking that drafting a guard is more likely.

Now when it comes to FA centers... Well that's something else entirely.

tackles have been drafted with the intent to move them to guard; but never heard of one taken in the first. So to spend a first on Decastro and move him to center would be seriously out there.

However if we were to draft him, we could see how he did at center. We still have the best prospect at Guard around; no harm in seeing what he could do at center. That would give us a whole lot of flexibility. But I think if we got him we plug him into one of the Guard slots and he spends the next 10 years there.
