NOTEBOOK
Antonio Pierce had his ninth revenge game against his former team this past Sunday. This weekend, it's time for Chris Canty's first grudge match.
The Giants defensive lineman, who signed a six-year, $42 million deal as a free agent this offseason, will line up against the Cowboys after playing for them the past four seasons. If he's not motivated enough for the matchup, he will be once Pierce's plan to fire him up comes to fruition.
"I'll find some stuff about him in Dallas and hype him up all week to make sure he's one (ticked)-off player," Pierce said Monday, one day after the Giants defeated the Commanders. "That's my No. 1 goal this week."
Canty wasn't too fired up Monday -- six days before kickoff. If he's sharpening some sore feelings for use on Sunday after Dallas allowed him to leave via free agency, he wasn't sharing them with reporters.
"There's nothing much to say. It's a division game, it's on the road and they're opening a new stadium," he said, later adding: "I don't want you guys to read into something that's really not there."
The one time Canty buckled and gave a tiny insight into his thoughts on facing his former team came when he was asked if he thinks playing in the new Cowboys Stadium, instead of Texas Stadium, will make it feel less uncomfortable.
"I do," he said. "It's a different venue. I've never played in that stadium before. It's going to take away a little bit of the awkwardness, if that makes any sense. But I'm looking forward to getting out there."
Canty had two tackles against the Commanders after sitting out all preseason with a hamstring injury suffered in training camp.
"It felt like I played 50 plays and I only played 20. I was a little gassed," Canty said. "It's hard to simulate game action in practice. It's something I was glad to have an opportunity to experience. If I had my preference, don't miss preseason. Preseason is important."
