You're often not as good as you think you are when you win and the same goes for when you lose.
Most of us and these coaches forget their are two teams on the field. It not always what we didn't do, a lot of the time it's what the other team isn't allowing you to do.
Game observations:
We lack speed in the secondary and in the offensive backfield.
Something must be done with Roy. He's a liability. He must loose weight
and improve quickness. I still think he's a special athlete. Nickle LB?
We didn't "threaten" the Eagles with our running game. I don't want to hear we needed to stick with it longer. That's BS! We ran plenty today. The numbers will say different, but that has to do with not stringing together longer drives early and getting behind late.
The only reason we had the success that we had was that we never got the eagles out of the "defend the pass mode". The whole game they had lineman stunting and twisting and LB's blitzing with the primary objective of getting penetration. Everything designed to get after Romo.
Our RB's don't threaten a defense enough. Defenses need to fear a RB can and will go the distance when the get through the line. We need to upgrade Jones bigtime.
Our blockers sucked for the most part. TE's, RB/FB, OL. OG in particular. If it wasn't OG failing up the gut, it was the others failing on the perimiter.
If our blockers get the job done, our good but not great RB's do alot more damage against their aggressive front.
Much like we did in game one of 2005.
We must upgade OG.
Romo was OK. I thought he did some real nice things early. Worked hard to keep us in it. 4th and 2 Hudini he pulled was real nice. TD to Owens. Long pass to Owens (dropped)on the left sideline was on the run and perfect.
Unfortunately he negated that with the two second half INT's. It's unacceptable. Both occurred when it was still a game. The one to Owens really kills me because we had a nice drive going. On the other side of the 50 down nine points.
Swear to god just before his INT I said this is a good spot to take a shot BUT WE HAVE TO COME OUT OF THIS DRIVE WITH ATLEAST A FG!
If I'm thinking it, you know the eagles are, it was to obvious. It was also obvious that he made up his mind presnap who he was going to off that play action. A play action that dawkins never bit on.
We must change our defensive coordinators. We must put the defense in strong hands. Someone who can be a nice counterpart to Parcells. Someone more aggressive to push him to that side. To do this he has to have credibility.
This has nothing to do with running a 3-4 or a 4-3. It has everything to do with diagnosing an opposing defense and coming up with the best recipe for defeating it.
You know I think the eagles sent 5 plus guys maybe 2-3 times. You didn't see them sending the house an leaving some 3rd string TE uncovered for what will be the longest play of his career.
It's quantity not quality. Remember Ware's huge sack and strip. He came on a stunt UP THE MIDDLE! What a friggin concept!
