No deep ball thrown.

The Cowboys didn't attack the middle of the field, or any deep routes. Was this game against the Lions an opportunity to practice our short range passing and runs? This is probably a building block to disguise our full-open playbook game we're going to need against the Saints or something.

What do you think?

I think we took what the Defense gave us and didnt try to force anything. NO will have to concentrate on stopping the short routes more now and might open up some shots down the field.

we tried one deep one to bryant

overthrown and dez and defender got tangled up.

The Lions were running coverages to try to take away the deep parts of the field where Bryant and Austin hurt teams. Notice Jason Witten catching short to intermediate routes? That's because Detroit decided to let us have those and take away the deep stuff. It also allowed us to run the ball more effectively than we had.

Sometimes you have to take what the defense gives you, and today was a perfect example.

From what I saw detroit rushed 4 and dropped guys in coverage. Few blitzes and just mainly cover 2 stuff. The deep stuff was rarely there and Kitna took what he got.

Thank you.

Because of the camera angles, fans don't get to see deep coverage. Therefore, they think the deep pass is always there when it's not.

Suh and Delmas are key players in that Detroit D. Delmas improves their safety coverage - if you guys can remember Dallas wanted him but Detroit beat us to the punch in the '09 Draft. Suh is just a damn beast.

As others have said, the coverages dictated our passing game. I am sure after the first drive, the Lions defensive line owned the Boys offensive line and Garrett was probably protecting Kitna with the screens and short passes.

Dallas took what the defense gave them... very effective

We started off protecting the OL by taking short drops. It was a good choice, because the interior line was totally outclassed for most of the game.

That's definitely not the first time Detroit did that to us.
