A deal between the Jaguars and free agent CB Drayton Florence is reportedly "all but done."
Apparently Florence's trip to Tampa wasn't productive. It sounds like he'll fly to the Jacksonville area Saturday and sign a contract he isn't worth.

and also, the jets seem like they are pillaging the pats roster like BP did to us..

The Jets have entered the pursuit for free agent DB Randall Gay.
What took so long? Gay has played in the defensive scheme that the Jets run since entering the league. He's meeting the the Saints on Saturday.

REPORTS OF FLORENCE TO JAGS PREMATURE

In response to a report from the San Diego Union-Tribune that cornerback Drayton Florence has a deal "all but done" with the Jags, a league source tells us that a deal is not imminent, or close.

Florence will visit with the Jags on Saturday, and he might work out a deal with them. But we're told that he's scheduling other visits and talking with other teams and isn't poised to sign with the Jaguars, or anyone.

With Asante Samuel signed and Marcus Trufant and Nnamdi Asomougha wearing the franchise tag, Florence is arguably the best free-agent option on the market at the position.

He also costed the Chargers that game against the Pats in that playoff game last year.

They sacked Brady to get them out of field goal range, but Florence thought he was somehow smart enough to head-butt one of the Pats' players-result, the Pats ended up getting a FG, and ended up winning the game by that much.

No thanks!

At this point, I don't see any help for the Cowboys on the free agent market, not at cornerback...Florence and Gay were the elite of the second tier of corners, and both are becoming costly enough to price themselves right out of the Cowboys' budget...

I'd still love it if the Skins were to release Shawn Springs, and the Boys jumped on him in a hurry, but I don't see that happening... looks like the draft is our best avenue for improving at cornerback, which of course makes that position an even bigger draft priority... we can add a good free agent wide receiver at a reasonable price, and a good free agent running back, but there don't seem to be any good free agent corners out there... not at anything resembling a reasonable price...

I could make a case for the Boys drafting two corners fairly early...

I'd rather draft a CB anyway. We don't need another high-priced DB on this team right now.

The only problem is we've got just Newman & Henry along with 2007 7th round pick David Ball as our CBs. It will be too much to expect a first year CB drafted with probably our 22nd to start immediately and be an effective player. I don't believe Cromartie of the Chargers started until later in his first season and really didn't become a star until his 2nd season.

I have been reading on this board and others how smart Jerry is by staying pat and keeping our free-agents, and not spending any money in the FA market to help better this team. all i hear is we were 13 and 3, and dont need much. you people are wrong.this team has not won a playoff game in over 10 years. it's not going to win a playoff game or a championship unless this team is improved in lot's of areas. the idea that we are so good we dont need much is a joke. we should already have gotten a vet CB who can challenge A.Henry for the starting job, or be our 3rd corner. then you wont have to go into the draft reaching for corners.we also must bring in someone like J.Walker. the recieving core as it stands is not good enough. we also need help at SS and RB.and dont tell me we can fill all these needs in the draft. bottom line is this team is not good enough. so stop with this nonesense that we dont need much. SPEND SOME MONEY ON FREE-AGENTS JERRY!

Jerry, has spent Money, Signing Zach, Resigning Flo, High Tendering Barber and Canty, Franchising Hamlin. We'll get some second Tier FA's maybe a RB or WR.

That is not enough. a 35 year old linebacker. an overrated LT who get's false starts. and he had to tender MB and Canty, or risk losing them for nothing. he should have made a run at some of the top FA corners. all im saying is the idea that we should stand pat and just keep our players is not enough. and that was proven by going 13 and 3, and going home in the first round again. no playoff wins in 10 years speaks for itself. dont fool yourselves. this team is not good enough. it needs more help.

Jaguars signed CB Drayton Florence.

He will receive $12 million in guarantees.
He's only a league-average cornerback, but he was the most experienced starter on the market. Jacksonville did well signing Brian Williams to a similar deal, and now has one of the deepest backfields in the NFL. Florence will probably be a nickel back.

And where is this money going to come from considering we're only about $3 under the cap at this point?

Do you know how to spell s-a-l-a-r-y c-a-p?
