Everyone wonders who we resign, Gallup? Wilson? Did Turner show enough to be the #3? Do we draft a #3, maybe a smaller, quicker slot receiver? Do we look for a thicker, sturdier, option in the Deebo mold?

I’d like to suggest a different option, more in line with McCarthy’s past.

Clearly, we will have a #3 WR for certain packages, whether that’s Wilson, Turner, Feboko, or a draft pick.
However, maybe it’s not a critical decision. Maybe we go away from the 3 WR set being our primary look.

What if Dallas goes into the off-season emphasizing the FA/draft acquisition of TE and FB, in addition to the obvious need at either LG or center or both. I’m fine with Jarwin as a receiving TE, but what if we emphasize a blocking TE who can also catch at least the short play-action passes. What if we pair that with a real FB, a guy who is an adept lead blocker, pass protector, and outlet receiver?

Would a true FB help Zeke and Pollard at the point of attack?
Would a true FB in pass protection allow greater use of Pollard in the passing game?
Would a true FB make the screen and double screen run smoother and be more effective with the TE blocking or getting in the seam beyond the screen?
Would a TE and RB underneath and as outlets while a FB blocks push Cooper and Lamb down the field more and make reads more clear for Dak?

I’m not suggesting abandoning the 3 wr sets, but being more physical underneath with the run game and passing to a RB like Pollard will likely bring a safety from the umbrella to the box and give Cooper and Lamb more room to operate. I feel like using so many wideouts all the time actually makes for tighter windows and less room for the WRs with more DBs spread out back there also cutting down on YAC.

Maybe I’m just old school and miss the truly talented FBs like Walt Garrison, Ron Springs, Robert Newhouse, and Moose Johnston. Just a thought….maybe we’ve fallen in love too much with all the talented wideouts and it’s perhaps made our offense a little predictable while also making us do things in the Redzone that aren’t our normal offense.

1. Lamb
2. Wilson
3. Fehoko
4. Turner
5. Draft pick

Not great on paper but oh well. It looked great last year and it didn't much matter if you cant pass block or run the ball.

There's a ton of dead money or high cap figures for underperforming contracts.

There's a price to be paid for those mistakes and here we are.

Doesn't matter who they resign. What needs to improve is, Coaching Coaching & Coaching!
Exactly.

That's what frustrates me to no end.

We should have had much more recent playoff success given the players that have been here.

I've never seen staff in any sport consistently do less with more....and it isn't unique to the current staff.

Yet those "hahrd luhks indameeruh" don't lead to any real conclusions apparently.

Cooper needs to renegotiate his contract based on his productivity. I love Gallup but like Tyron Smith, availability is huge.

Jarwin is injury prone, as is Gallup. Turner is slow. (4.65).

While I'm ranting lol.....I fear that CD Lamb has the talent of a 1, but the heart and desire of a 2 at best.

Seems like he is quite comfortable as a rich Dallas celebrity. Of course he was infected at birth with the #88 thing which was a full embarrassment.

I'm worried the same of Diggs. Parsons eventually.

The culture just grabs them and won't let go. No staff can overcome it.

Sorry for the rant lol, it's just something I can't not let frustrate me beyond belief. Working on it!

excellent post.
i've thought the same.
maybe this is the time to transition to a more balanced/run heavy offense.

Lamb isn't rich yet. He still needs to sign a second contract or a franchise tag and then he will be rich. He's well off now but true complacency won't set in until that second contract.

should have looked at your thread before starting a new one, but I feel like moving Pollard to the slot could pay serious dividends and solve multiple issues.

Not extremely fast(4.52), but quick and shifty, which would most likely be effective as a slot wr.

Can't Gallup just rehab & recover.....the Board is already hot & cold (mostly) on him.......and talk of Turner, Simi Fehoko, or a draft pick WR?.........when does Noah Brown get cut? I'm lost on this one. Shouldn't the OL be an emphasis on the offensive side, given what we saw this year? The OL is operating off of reputation and past play, as a group. Needs fixing immediately.

You're right.

But you know he will get to the fourth year without quite having earned a top deal.....but be seen as someone we cant not have for the upcoming SB run, and Jerry will make him the highest paid WR in the history of the league.

We've seen it too many times.

If they are gonna sign these guys to contracts beyond what they are worth at least attempt to do it early and get some sort of discount.

For a team that wants to build through the draft only and re sign their own, they sure do stink at doing things like that.

The contracts they give to their own are the type that are meant to convince someone to move their family and comfort zone.

Wooooow, this comment is just wow. You are going to question his heart and desire?? After how he's played for this team?? You are waaaay out of bounds. You don't know him or what's in his heart...or what it takes to walk in his shoes. It's fans like you that give Cowboys fans a bad name. This was low, uncalled for, and just a garbage take on the player. He's our best offensive weapon by far, he's done nothing but ball OUT for this team. I know you guys are disappointed about the playoffs and desperately want to win another super bowl but geez. You may want to get away from all things football for a while and just relax. Better yet go watch his highlights from this season and come back and read what you wrote about this young man. Unbelievable.

I have been an advocate for getting a real FB for some time now. They have Nick Ralson who clearly has the power to be a good lead blocker. I don't know much about his running or receiving skills. I have a feeling he would make 90% of those 3rd and 1 runs if given the chance just by powering his way for 1 yard.

But Ralston type FBs are not the type to be out there are 3rd and long. Sure he could stay in and block allowing Pollard to run a route, but that means taking a WR off the field which is probably a negative.

They also have Sewo Olonilua who I think they prefer as a FB because he is more versatile. I have not seen enough of him to determine if he is any good as a lead blocker or a receiver in the passing game.
