No Greg Hardy ruling yet, too many days later

Instead they'll sit back while someone blatantly ignores their rulings?
Courts will issue rulings in accordance with the law. Courts will hold parties in contempt if appropriate.

Courts will not send someone into the NFL offices to force them to get their affairs in line. Courts will not remove anti-trust exemptions. Courts will not impose bylaws into the CBA.

And for the last time, it's not about the domestic violence, it's about making things up as they go along. With no agreed to rules and ending up in the courts in every case.
And the NFL is perfectly fine with that. As I have said 1,000 times, the NFL has learned it is better to overpunish and lose in court than it is to underpunish and face the public's (and politicians') wrath.

It's going to increase the power and justify the grievances of the NFLPA tenfold.

Obviously we will see more grievances, but it won't increase the NFLPA's power.

Instead what will happen is much more attention will be paid to this issue the next time the CBA comes up.

I want to see what they do with Mr. Pretty boy Tom Brady.

I know the situations are not the same, however, this is Goodell we are talking about.

I don't disagree with you in why they are doing what they're doing. They're trying to curry public approval by appearing to be super strict about domestic violence. But when everyone see why they do what they do, it loses its meaning.

The problem is in the how the league is handling it. With no standard set of rules or consistency. And the courts have repeatedly told them that they can't operate in this manner. They have not praised the, for Ray rice but rebuked them. They have done likewise in the Peterson case, and will do so again in the Hardy case.

And then the courts will grow tired of doing the same things and going over the same ground again and again.

Then you must have been living in a cave. There was plenty of outrage because you seem to forget we had 1 video all along. People saw him dragging her out of the elevator. Yes, the 2nd video strengthened the criticism, but the outrage was there from the beginning. People were upset that he literally got half the punishment he would have gotten if he had tested positive for marijuana.
They haven't made things worse in their eyes. The public criticism of the NFL is nowhere near the levels it was at this time last year.
And it will keep happening again and again.
Courts are not going to do that, period, end of story.

As bknight indicated, it is something that politicians could do, but they won't. No politician is going to criticize the NFL for over-punishing a guy who beats up women, even if they had to violate their own bylaws in doing so.

Of course the criticism isn't the same as last year. There hasn't been a video of a guy knocking his girlfriend out this year.

What makes you say that? Last year they went through a legitimate crisis with the way they handled Rice. This year there is nary a word of criticism regarding how they handled Hardy (outside the Metroplex, that is).

It is because this year the guys who attack women are no longer getting away with a 2-game (at most) suspension.

Do you see Hardy accepting 6?

I don't. I think anything less than two is definitely going to court.

Depends. If the alternative is to sit on the exempt list until Roger is ready to let him play, 6 games isn't a bad deal.

Guess it all hinges on to what extent Roger can decide how long he's on that list. Given that it's a part of the CBA and the commissioner has sole decisive power to add or remove players, it seems like a hell of a thing to challenge.

If the NFLPA took that position, it would be ironic. It's the affect on the player's pay that makes it so punitive. Had Hardy played in all of 2014, then missed a few games in 2015 serving his suspension, he wouldn't be playing on a one year, incentive laden contract right now.

Meh, potential earnings are always high.

Guaranteed weekly checks are not.

Pretty much why they'll agree to the tag. Pay a butt load guaranteed even though the player stands to lose more than he can gain. Not much room to go above the average of the top 5. Plenty of room to fall should a guy get injured or in trouble.

I think there's plenty of criticism. There's no rhyme or reason to their judgements, and the courts have repeatedly shown them that. And they have to date refused to comply with the courts. Harry's case is the most glowing example of it. When his incident occurred, the penalty was two games. Since the crisis, the NFL has altered those terms, on their own without dealing with the players union. When they did, they upped it to six games, with which I have no problem. But then, somehow, they tried to give Hardy 10 games when he was never convicted of what he was supposedly accused of?

The logic makes zero sense and the situation continues to cry out for an established set of standards. But the league is more concerned with perception.

I see him getting an injunction allowing him to play until a decision is reached. That puts all pressure on the league to get their act together.

Doubtful. I'd say it's far more likely because of no videos. Just as before the video there wasn't much talk about it.

5 weeks and still nothing from the NFL Lap Dog H. Henderson. this is a disgrace. and it is so unfair to Hardy and the Cowboys. yet Jerry keeps taking it from Goodell, and all those Gaints fan in the NY NFL office.. the Cowboys should be throwing a public fit about this BS. every day that goes by without a decision, hurts not just Hardy. but it hurts the Cowboys. this is just sickening to see Jerry not fight back.

With all due respect...
How is this hurting the Cowboys ? Nothing is going on.. Hardy can participate in all off season and pre season activities and has thus far. It is only affecting the fans and our lack of patience .. How would Jerry Jones or any other team official crying publicly change a single thing ? They knew this going in with Hardy.. It isn't a surprise to them .. The process is screwed up no doubt but it isn't hurting The team at this point .. I just don't see this dire need to know the appeal answer outside of I just want to know so we can see them go on to the next step ... Other than that .. It's futile for Jerry or anyone else to publicly puff out their chest and demand resolution ...

That would deal with the suspension, but even if he were eligible to play he still has to come off the exempt list.

This could all be resolved tomorrow, but he'd still be on the list. That's my entire point. The outcome of his suspension may not meant anything at all.

It all depends on what extent Roger can exercise the powers granted to him in the CBA.

If Hardys options are:

1. Appeal, win, and remain on the exempt list for 10 weeks. At bare minimum, be on the list until the NFL is ordered to remove him.

Or

2. Accept a 4 to 6 game suspension.

Option 2 isn't that bad. His money is tied to his ability to play. 4 to 6 game bonuses easily earns him more than he would while being on the exempt list.

Again, it all depends on how far the commissioners authority to add and remove players actually extends.

Hardy can't sue in Federal Court until Henderson upholds the suspension. That is where players have been successful.

Any delay just means their is a greater chance it won't be resolved by the regular season.

Hardy could miss games waiting on the courts, win his case and still lose. Injunctions are hard to get in Labor cases.

Well, the July 4th Friday is almost gone and no word yet. That theory is now toast along with the previous Friday's to minimize the shock.

When is our next target date prediction? I am going to go with August 7th.......
