RT @robertgio Former Red Raider Brandon Sharpe has agreed to a free agent deal with the Cowboys. Sharpe was waived by the Saints earlier.

That comes after former Nebraska LB Jay Moore decided he didn't want to report after all.

He's the nephew of Shannon Sharpe.

I thought I remembered this name from the draft stuff.

15 sacks last season. 18 TFL's last season. - http://www.cfbstats.com/2009/player/700/1011330/index.html

4 sacks vs Nebraska. 2.5 against Okla. 2 vs Kansas. 2 vs Kansas St.

And no one drafts him? Weird.

I'd rather have Sharpe than Moore anyway, Brandon has some serious pass rush potential (15 sacks last year for Tech)... IIRC, 20 of his 36 tackles were behind the line of scrimmage...

Brandon Sharpe looks the part of a QB hunter.

He can sift through traffic pretty good and had excellent change of direction skills for a player his size. If he can play standing up he could develop into a player at OLB. I think his best shot at making it in the league is at OLB in a 3-4 anyway.

Thanks for the video on him.

Thanks for the roster update, Fanatic...

yeah buddy dc, thanks for keeping us posted, i went to sleep early last night

Note, now this is kind of undrafted free agent you want to get, and remember he came from Saints, so he has some of their formations stuff, so maybe help us later if with team, even if just on practice squad, this is kind of player just like shannon sharpe was that went undrafted, but makes plays on field, you have to find spot for him, this is where a great Defensive coordinator/head coach like wade comes in, he trains him, and gets him ready; also big praise here goes to our scouting department and asst coaches that were aware and picked him off of waiver wire, Yes! Yes! Now, its all up to wade!

Brandon Sharpe - DE - Texas Tech
By Joe Everett on Friday, 2nd April 2010
This kid can flat out bring it off the edge. Put him in the lineup and he will walk his opponent directly into the quarterback.

Sharpe has NFL blood-lines, as he is the nephew of all-pro tight end Shannon Sharpe. Was a JUCO runningback that switched up to defensive end after arriving at Texas Tech and went on to set the school’s single season sack record in 2009.

Flashes unique strength/speed combination and is a very physical player who can bring the wood when he gets to the ball-carrier.

He does not have an ideal frame and has only been a one-year producer.

Sharpe is still very raw as a player and doesn’t use his hands and long arms to his advantage. While he’s got a lot of hype going for him, he showed up out of shape and looked sluggish at the Texas vs Nation game.

He racked up 13 sacks in his last 8 games and is still learning the position. There’s a ton of upside as far as a football player but his lack of size might leave him off of some team’s draft boards.

Brandon Sharpe was signed as a free agent by the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints and his first action as a Saint was participating in the teams rookie camp. Brandon wasn't selected in the NFL draft, so now he is having to prove he can play all over again. Of course Sharpe proved he could excell on the college level. He played at two junior colleges before signing with Texas Tech and in his senior season he was the most successful pass rushing defensive end in Division 1 with 15 sacks.

This kid is fast, active, stays with the play, and has a high motor. How does he not get drafted? Amazing!!!!

No kidding, he looks like a fat lineman in that Saints pic of him. I thought that was Jammal Brown until I saw the tape on his helmet.

Nephew to Shannon Sharpe. So is he Sterling Sharpe's kid or his nephew too? Sterling was a great WR for the Packers until he had the same condition that Irvin ended up with. Sterling and Irvin were also in the same draft class.

At least he doesn't look like Uncle Horseface.

I hope he can get in shape fast, otherwise he has no chance at all.

And why did the Saints cut him before they opened camp? Something must be up with him. At least it didn't cost us a pick to find out.

He's probably one of those guys who doesn't fit a 43. Way too small for end and not really a 43 LB.

But yeah, he's still small for a 34 OLB... Maybe the best case is a Dumervil type. But it's hard to get too excited about a guy you get off the street when camp has already started.

I don't know why they cut him BUT that doesn't mean we shouldn't take a look at him.. I trust WP judgement on defensive players. Obviously they see something in the kid. Who cares what the Saints saw..

Texas Tech LB Fills Open Roster Spot
Posted by jellis at 7/25/2010 8:44 AM CDT on truebluefanclub.com
The Cowboys have added an 80th man to their training camp roster, signing linebacker Brandon Sharpe, a rookie from Texas Tech.

Sharpe had originally signed with New Orleans after going undrafted in April, but couldn't make it to camp. He replaced former Nebraska linebacker Jay Moore, who had agreed to terms when the Cowboys released wide receiver Verran Tucker on Friday, but did not report.

Moore was an inside linebacker, while Sharpe will play on the outside in the Cowboys' 3-4 scheme. Second-year linebacker Steve Octavien will now move inside full-time.

The Cowboys now have three members of Texas Tech's recent defenses. Pass-rush linebacker Brandon Williams was a fourth-round pick in 2009, and the team also picked up cornerback Jamar Wall in the sixth-round back in April.

Sharpe holds the Red Raiders' single-season record in sacks, finishing last season with 15.
Don't know why he couldn't make it to Saints camp, whatever that means... Maybe he thought this was a better opportunity?

Anyway, poor Doc Ock. He's one of those great effort guys who probably isn't going to make it. Just something that happens when you finally accumulate enough talent.

thats true CL, but this kid makes plays on the field, just like shannon sharpe who went undrafted too, but shanahan found a spot for him on the field, and now he has a chip on his shoulder too, to prove the saints wrong,

sometimes you get lucky and can pick up a kid like this guy that a team cut, and will regret later they cut him, if he can play olb some, along with pass rushing on certain downs as an outside DE, just think our linebackers position will be mostly filled for years to come

ware, spencer, jason williams, lee, brooking-probably one more year, butler, brandon williams, and now this kid, along with bradie james, and we wont have to spend another high pick on a linebacker for 4 to 6 years, but use those picks for other positions

Shannon Sharpe WAS the Denver Bronco :)

This is the kid I wanted us to draft in the later rounds!!! He was my sleeper in the draft. He missed a couple of games last year too and still had 15 sacks. I know Wade can find a place for this kid. IMO I thought he was better then Brandon Williams in only his one year.

He was almost unblockable last year. He had 4 sacks against Nebraska, and could have had 2 more, making Suh look normal.

I promise you if he get's into the game he will sack the QB. At what position?? Most likely another OLB.

I love it!! We can never have enough pass rushers!

From the look of that picture of him in a saints uni, he doesn't appear to be in very good shape for a LB. He obviously didn't impress anyone for him to be cut before camp starts.

He doesn't look like he's in the greatest of shape and he seems to reach for most of his tackles. He did seem to have decent strength and quickness but he probably needs a lot of work if he's going to stick around.

BTW, I'm not surprised Moore flaked out....It is the Nebraska M.O. as of late. We are much better off without Nebraska Cornsissies on our team.
