No knock on Quincy Carter, but is anything more overstated than his mobility?

I don't mean to rip on Quincy Carter. I am not a hater or a supporter of his. To me, he has and always will be an average NFL QB. I think his role with the Jets is perfect for him. He is a solid back-up QB who can come in and win some games for you while the starter is out. But, one thing that I have always thought has been incredibly overrated about him is people saying he has this great running ability. He has been sacked 11 times in two games so far this year. I just think people assume since he is a black QB and is obviously a pretty good athlete that he can really run. I think he has above average mobility but nothing more than a lot of other QB's including Henson.

If you watched any of yesterday's game in Cleveland you would have seen a QB under complete attack from the Browns pass rush.
He had virtually no chance on any of those sacks.

I believe there is an NFL forum to post about non-Cowboy football related items.

he is overrated as far as being considered a running QB. he DID, however, display a knack for sensing and evading the rush while with the cowboys. his pass protection was usually pretty sorry and there WERE times i would swear he had eyes in the back of his head. his arm was pretty good, but ability to read coverage and decision-making were questionable, if not often frustrating. but he still has time to grow and, for his sake, i hope he does.

His team also won.

I'm not saying that he's a great QB....But, between this year and last year.

QC had a better winning percentage here last year than Vinny has with us this year...

and

QC has a better winning percentage with the Jets this year than Vinny had last year with the Jets.

Quincy has very good if not great mobility.

His problem is that he does not utilize it for anything. He can avoid the first and second pass-rushers, scramble around for a bit, and then one-hop it to the safety-valve reciever... thats all he ever seems to do. When he does decide to run with the ball, he jitterbugs sideline to sideline and never seems to gain more than a yard or two. If I was his QB coach, I would make all his practice snaps rollout plays, and call for designed QB keepers so he could be a threat to run for some actual north-south yardage instead of running past the D-line and then stopping to get his bearings while the other seven defensive players fly to the ball.

There were several posts on a Jets board making the same observation about his mobility. He was sacked 6 times, Chad wouldn't have gotten sacked that much, etc.

From what I saw, about 75% or so of the fans on that board can't wait for Pennington to come back.

He seemed to run well his rookie season. Of course they called several running plays for him like the option play. He is a good runner, not a great runner at all. I agree that it is overstated because the way some media guys talk about him, you would expect him to be able to run like Michael Vick.
