What are we up to next here in FA ?

No one seems to know.

JJT is reading this board to find out whats happening.

Key's bonus ? Who knows ?

TO has more threads on here than our own players.

BP has put a lid so tight on this organization during FA I'm surprised they don't issue oxygen in Valley Ranch.

After our current signings, hos much under the cap are we ?

The calm before the storm.

They must take every staff member and lock them away at VR for this period.

It's hard to say exactly, because we don't know the exact breakdown of Kyle Kosier's contract... but we know that Gurode will count 1.5 mil against the cap, and Ayodele will count 1.6 mil... it's likely that Kosier's first year hit will be in the 1.75 to 2 million range, meaning thus far, the Boys will have an additional 4.85 to 5.1 million to count against the cap...

Since they reportedly started out at 22.6 million under the cap, that would leave them with right around 17.5 to 17.75 million under the cap...

That said, keep the following in mind:

1) The Cowboys will need to pay their draft picks and fund a practice squad with some of that money, you could figure 3.5 to 4 million to do that...

2) The Boys might well want to set aside some of that money to sign some of their young starters who will be free agents next year to contract extensions before they hit free agency... Jason Witten would be the first player I'd approach... I'd advocate they set aside 5 to 6 million to extend 2 or 3 chosen vets...

If they do all that, that would require 8.5 to 10 million dollars of that cap room... this would leave the Boys with about 7.5 to 9 million to sign free agents...

3) Remember also that the Boys can free up some more cap room by renegotiating Larry Allen's deal (or cutting him)... in addition, if the Boys do indeed cut Keyshawn Johnson loose (sure hope they don't), that would free up a bit more cap room as well... figure they might be able to free up 3-5 million that way...

Summing all this up, I'm estimating they still have 17.5 million in cap room... but realistically, they might have 10 to 12 mil to spend on the free agent market...

But hey, they were able to sign 3 players for about 5 million dollars, so we can reasonably expect them to be capable of signing 5 to 6 more veterans (provided they don't go after any high-dollar free agents)...

I suppose the rumors of various players we're interested in include,

Neal, OL Pats
2nd TE on Seattle (Tannam?)
Sowell, FB
Coleman, FS
Fabini (who's been at Valley Ranch for a physical)

TO (started with BP/Rosenhaus lunch)
McGinnest (FOB)

Not sure if I've forgotten someone.

Left off a kicker but cost will depend on whether we sign Vinatieri $2-1/2M+ a year or Seattle's kicker who wouldn't cost much, except 7th round pick.

Also don't like Coleman at FS; was benched last year by Texans. Rather have Lawyer Milloy if he has any gas left and cost is reasonable for 1-2 years, but we'd also need draft young FS who can learn behind him.

Love it if Cowboys worked out trade with Packers for WR Javon Walker. His knee injury in 05, bitterness towards Packers & Favre and since 06 last year of his contract-- lessens expectations Packers might have for what they can get in return. Doubt Cowboys creative enough or have enough initiative to get deal done. If Jones was real GM, he'd be making these kinds of deals just like NE GM & others would do--Parcells would have to be on board. FYI: Walker hurt in season opener & is 6 months into rehab; our doctors can tell how he healing and extent of his rehab. In any case any pick given should be conditional.

Gurode's impact on Cap minimal. Allen move and Als can save us $2M. We are in great cap shape -

You still stick to the "Al Singleton is gone" mantra.

Sad.

This is true. He was on with Norm talking this morning. Mentioned that the Cowboy fans are upset and grumbling about the lack of signings so far. It is evident on message boards.

I'd say that's pretty close but doesn't the rule of 51 still apply? Without looking at the #'s of player 49,50 and 51, I'd guess that would add around a million more to the figure.

I would think that RW and T Newman, if you were to redo their deals would not have a huge cap effect because they had such large deals as rookies. Wittens on the other hand will be a big increase.

I would definitely redo James' contract before he has another good/great year.
