Who here is playing it? As I pretty much guessed, this game would not be massively appealing. This is very much a niche game. I'm part of the target audience, I'm not against repetitiveness or grind/farm heavy games. I grew up with JRPGs where 85% of the game was grinding while the other 15% was story.

I have yet to tire of entering a new planet and seeing it's unique ecosystem. Just today, I landed on a planet where the days were cold and the nights were outlandishly freezing. Catch to this was, the planet had a crap ton of deep caves that you could bunker down and explore during the night and do your farming. I went from this straight to what the game considers a wet planet. Had a mixture of swamp but tropical look to it, but every now and then it gets hit by severe storms and you are forced to dwell in underwater caverns. I have yet to find a lush forest planet or the oceanic planets just yet.

I'm having a ton of fun with this game. Funnily enough, I was afraid this game was a bit of a scam while the people I'm seeing disappointed were unbelievably hyped and criticized anyone who dared to say a negative thing about the trailers.

I was actually looking very seriously at NMS, but after listening to the people behind it dodge direct questions about multi-player support, which was promised, and as Achilleslaststand said, reading the initial reviews, I'm a little hesitant to buy it now.

Just picked it up the other day. Haven't even left the first planet yet. So much to learn and explore. Have only played a few hours, but enjoying it so far.

For what it is, I'm not paying $60. From what I've read there are just too many technical issues and not enough depth.

Bingo, looked at steams and videos and the same Aliens, same races, same animals just barely different, ships the same with slight cosmetic changes. This game was billed as soooo far out there and so out of the ordinary. I think it actually would be fun to play a short while, but long term it won't hold up unless they roll out massive updates and patches, and probably DLC.

There is no multiplayer, they messed that up, even if another player happens to be in the same place as you, there is no way to know if they are a real person, and the odds of it happening is even bigger than astronomical.

the frigging day before release they switched it from MMO to single player in the description. that is about as lame a stunt as I have ever seen in the early access/prepay form of development.

I am so glad I didn't prepay after seeing that stunt.

That's exactly why game companies are rapidly losing the trust of their "early access" supporters. Eventually, everyone will get burned by a game and it usually only takes it happening once or twice before people will start choosing to buy completed games rather than support games that may never launch or games that launch as something different than or short of what was promised.

I guess I'm the only one that isn't upset by no multi-player. I get to explore and figure out the game at my own pace without some 13 year old that has all day to play ganking me and making some comment about my mom.

And get off my lawn!

It gets boring and repetitious after a while.

Not enough combat for me.

Try out Elite Dangerous if you haven't. I have already given up on NMS for now and gone back to ED. Plenty of Combat to be had, and exploration is more fun, even if the planets aren't as unique or lively.

Thanks. I'll take a look at it.

I've actually thought about checking out Elite Dangerous rather than NMS.

From what I have seen ED is much better, not perfect not as colorful and you don't have standing first person combat, but still much more depth.

Yeah there's no out of cockpit anything yet. you're always in a ship, or driving around on a planet (lifeless barren planets mostly). But exploring the universe is fun, and the space combat is as well. And it's fairly easy to choose between missions, exploring, combat, trading, etc. You can also meet with other people to do things.
