We all have varying opinions of what type of defensive scheme we want the Cowboys to run in the future. What is important for the Cowboys perspective to truly have a long-term plan, not a short-term fix and build in up in the right way. If it means they have to turnover many starters, so be it.

Now who runs the Defense is a whole other question? Do you look to hire a retread with a successful track record? Do they hire a young blood who has modern, innovative ideas? Doesn't really matter, but they have to make the right choice for the long-term success of this franchise.

It starts with the man who buys the groceries - he doesn't think a top notch defense is necessary, and that is a huge problem. And worse yet, does anyone trust him to have the ability to identify the right pieces? I certainly don't.

Where is all the money and talent coming from after they pay Dak? With the Jones crew Defense is a after thought, didn't you hear Stevie say how much talent is on the team, they really like their guys.

You get a $5 cigar, spot on, some how Jerry and talent evaluation don't go hand and hand.

I agree, and it should be built around a guy we have confidence in - so not Nolan.

We are actually better off with the cap than most people think, even with resigning Dak, so there is no reason we cant get a couple of decent FAs, mixed with a draft that should be almost completely dedicated to defense, mix in DLaw, Diggs, and Gregory, and a new DC, this defense has a chance to be respectable next year.

Have a DC that will be here for the long-term, not a 1yr fix. If that coach becomes successful and land a HC job, promote someone within who knows the Defense.

Agree with this defensive approach.

Not to hijack but these same principles should apply to a qualified GM and qualified HC discussing a shared overall team building philosophy and player choice selection not just who the next defensive coordinator should be.

Coach Jones and his present unique hierarchy setup are not run this way.

Applies to all phases of this franchise operations.

History says big and physical is the way to go.

The Purple People Eaters
The Orange Crush
The Steele Curtain 1&2
The Dirty Dozen 1&2
The Legion of Boom
The '85 Bears

The front office just needs to figure out what big and physical really means.

You left out Landry's 'Doomsday Defense'. They belong in a list like this.

From Wikipedia: The Doomsday Defense was the defense of the Dallas Cowboys American football team during the dynasty years of the late 1960s - 1970s. This defense was the backbone of the Cowboys' dynasty, which won two Super Bowls (VI, XII) and played in three more (V, X and XIII).
