No one is allowed to make fun of Keith Davis anymore

Until our special teams stop giving up a touchdown in every game he's missing from the lineup.

I think our new special teams coach needs to go back to Oregon State, Cal Poly State or Northwest Tulsa A&M or wherever he came from. The coverage units have been awful since training camp.

Hopefully the Bullet magnet can get back on the field quickly. Keith "the full metal jacket" Davis. :laugh2:

Bobby Carpenter and his new killer 'stache are not the greatest on the special teams. Killah is the key to our ST unit. It becomes clearer and clearer why we resigned him with no real intention of playing him at FS for his career.

I don't think anyone made fun of Killa for his ST work -- it's obvious he's great at that. It's at safety that I never want to see him again.

And that looked like some of Cricket Anderson's work on that McGee return. That's what happens when you play rookies. With Davis *and* Brown hurt, we're probably playing some guys we wish we didn't have to.

I was worried about Read from the start, because it took so long to hire him, and Wade had obvious problems at Buffalo with that. But I'm not sure how much of these returns are his fault. We've faced some outstanding returners lately, and we miss guys like Ryan Fowler.

I agree wholeheartedly. It was Anderson's lane that he vacated that allowed McGee to get his initial break and everything went downhill from there.

In regards to Keith Davis, he is a vital part of this team and I hope he gets healthy enough return soon.

BTW The talk of Davis' gunshot wounds and references thereof have really gotten old. I know as fans we have a right to criticize sometimes to excess but the comments on him have not only become corny and unnecessary... they are just boring to hear. In my opinion, the man's life work has produced more positives than the negatives he's been associated with... on and off the football field.

Doesnt it seem like we face some heralded return man every week? Who is next?

Didn't you know? It's Bill Parcells' fault.

It is kind of funny how carry that "Bruce DeHaven sucks" messageboard meme had, even though he statistically had one of the better ST units in the league while he was here.

Meanwhile, our current special teams gives up TD kick returns in back to back games ... which is practically unheard of, you should give up a kick return TD once every two to three years ... and I don't see a single post about Bruce Read.

Winning is the ultimate deodorant.

I wonder if Steve Hoffman could fix this problem?

:hammer:

We need a better ST's coach next year, I don't give a rat's arse if Wade doesn't want to fire that guy. THis is an instant where I'll be ok with JJ firing Reed and bringing in another ST's coach. If Wade pulls that "If he goes, I go" schtick then I say "Buh Bye" to Wade and make Garrett the HC.

Ellis Hobbs has already returned a 108 yarder this year. Basically *Every Single Game* that we don't have Davis in and do face any sort of respectable returner, we give up a TD. And I don't think it's all the coaches fault, I don't see how it could be.

In the end though it's the players' responsibility to stay in their lanes, I don't know if you can necessarily blame the coach...what else is he gonna do when some dumb rookie makes a dumb mistake? Then again I wasn't one bashing our ST last year anyway.

It's amazing that someone can be so good at S/T, but suck so bad at actual football.

I don't remember much complaining about DeHaven at all. I think most people knew we had very good coverage units, and Tyson Thompson was always pretty good.

Keith Davis doesn't suck. He's not good, but he doesn't suck. He's an average football player and an exceptionaly special teamer.

I'd take that over Bobby Carpenter, who seems to suck at both. You would think the 23rd pick in the draft could at least not be a liability on special teams by his 2nd year. Especially a linebacker.
