Lets start with the givens: 1. Romo will be the QB; 2. Murray will be the running back; 3. Garret will be the HC.

Status:
1. The offense is average with Romo and Murray carrying the offense. The OL is average and better at run blocking and showing holes during pass blocking. Romo is older and becoming more fragile with games miss due to injuries.
2. The Defense is the worse in the NFL. The DL can not compete with the Girl Scouts and is made up of warm bodies off the street. The LBs are alright when healthy but Carter is not right fit in the 3-4 defense. The secondary looked bad but that is mostly the product of a bad front seven.

Outlook for 2014: Unless the Cowboys change the way they pick and choose players there is no reason to believe that they will not be 8-8 next year.

Fixes: Because of the failures of the last few drafts it will still take a few future drafts to fix this team.
1. Most Fix Defense - a) The DL starting with the DT positions to push the pocket and stop runs in the back field (two for the 4-3 or 3-4 schemes). The DEs for the next year are on the team now with upgrades the following year. b) Free safety who can complete with the new breed of tall/fast WR.
2. Most Fix offense - a) Guards are the real weakness in this offense in the run and very definite in the pass. With Romo the weak link due to him being more fragile and missing games he needs better protection. b) After watching Philly and other teams we faced this year the power running game is the QB best friend. Murray was alright right but not a power runner. We need the power runner who will get 5 to 6 yards even when there is 9 in the box to defend. This will help in short yardage and at the goal line (red zone).

These fixes will get us to the NFC Championship game.

Next most important draft picks:
1. Good players on Defense: a) Good rotation players for front 7; b) Taller CB who will match up with tall/fast WR and TE.
2. Good players on Offense: a) TE who look like Witten; b) Tackles; c) Rotation/back up for OL.

The Following year Draft most Have Fixes:
1. Offense a) QUARTER BACK; b) Route running WR; C) Backup QB
2. Defense a) The next Middle linebacker to lead the defense; b) Secondary.

This will be our Superbowl year.

I didn't see the part where Jerry sells the Cowboys, because if he is still the owner/gm this will not happen.

Will, you do have a point. Jerry is a good owner and business man but he blows rocks as a GM!

They truly need to focus on the lines in the draft and especially on defense in the draft...but, Jones is always distracted by that shiny little object in the sand...he thinks once he picks it up and gives it a rub, the magic genie will appear and the team will win it all...thus, he will select someone stupid in a position where he won't and then house of cards that he has built starts to fall

Ah, another one of those good owner/terrible GM guys.

That makes sense. Because one thing a good owner does is saddle his team with a terrible GM till death do they part.

Romo has missed games due to injury twice. in 2010 (collar bone fracture) and this year. If romo is the weak link on offence then what is demarco who is always hurt or dez bryant? Both are more prone to injury than Romo.

I don't agree the oline has holes in it. They gave up less qb hits, sacks and had a higher ypc than the vaunted Niners oline. Top ten in every catergory. Not saying they can't use another guard, because Leary's knee is a little wonky they probably could....but it's a strength of the team now, not a weakness.

Most of there attention has to go to the dline. They need a lot of help especially in the middle of the 4-3. I think the team's has hopes for Bass, Hayden is just a guy (servicable) and beyond that it scraps with maybe the hope Wynn gives them something. They need at least three interior lineman and probably one or two ends depending on what happens with Ware and Spencer.

As it stands now, I think they're pretty much on the same level as the other NFC east teams but in the worst cap position. It's going to be tough and I have little faith Jerry is saavy enough to navigate through it.

I see more of the same. 8-8 if we are lucky. Defense won't vastly improve overnight.
We only beat teams with losing records. So that depends on who we play.

Don't be surprised at 7-9 or 6-10 next.

It's not getting better. It's a snowball rolling down the hill and it hasnt hit the bottom yet.

(1) Super Bowl? I'm trying not to laugh uncontrollably at this. There was nothing about this year's team that should make you feel good about our Super Bowl chances in 2014.
(2) Our offensive line did a pretty darn good job this year, both in run protection and pass protection. Not sure what you're getting at there.
(3) I'm cool with drafting the heir to Romo's throne but we have so many needs on this team it really doesn't make much sense to draft a QB early.

We're not going anywhere with Jason Garrett. It's proven. If he couldn't win the division this season then it's just not going to happen.

Yep. We had a cupcake division and a pretty easy schedule overall. We should have won 10+ games this year, but JG and the bozos couldn't get it done.

you want more power than demarco murray?
and then what? continue not giving him the ball?
you want route running WR's? to replace who?
You want another TE? really?
Another cornerback? We paid Carr $50 mill, traded up in the draft for Mo, and just extended Scandrick.

And we're gonna do all of this and make it to the NFC championship..... oh and all with Jason Garrett as our head coach....

We only beat teams with losing records. So that depends on who we play.

This is the biggest indictment of Jason Garrett.

He is not capable of getting his team to pull an upset of a quality football team.

The more disturbing thing is that there are now blowouts, severe blowouts to the quality teams that are starting to crop up and even the teams we "should beat" end up being close.

That is a downward trend, not an upward one.

But it is so darn hard to win the NFL or something. Funny that is a saying usually coming from teams that are bad and mediocre, with coaches who are the same.

There are a minimum of two (GB and Detroit) that were winnable that we literally gave away.

However, we could have easily lost to Washington were it not for Romo's heroics.

We were not good enough to win 10+ games. If fortunate, 10 wins. Less fortunate, 6 wins. In all actuality, 8 wins had us a little on the lucky side than the unlucky.

Judging from the last few seasons, there is no place to go, period. I hate to be a downer (really, I do) but the schedule for Dallas next season is not kind. The NFC East has the pleasure of playing the NFC West next year, plus Dallas got hosed by finishing in second place in the Division. That means they play Chicago and New Orleans, two teams who have repeatedly treated Dallas like their little girl the last few seasons.

This next draft needs to be exceptional and a new offensive play-caller that knows situational football needs to come on board for Dallas to get out of 8-8. Defense needs a ton.

No...that's not really true. While I do think that this team could have a shot with an upgraded front 7...next year could be much worse.

I've no faith in Garrett at all. Is there another coach in the league that is so adept at hindering his own team?

Ugh...I'm disgusted at Jerry more than anyone. The man is on another planet and no one on Earth has the ability to reach him.

I like your optimism but what little I had left has been drained by the Master of Disaster sitting in this team's GM chair.

Nowhere to go but up....if you don't count 0-16, 1-15, 2-14, 3-13, 4-12, 5-11, 6-10, or 7-9

You swung and missed right from the get-go. The Cowboys had one of the highest rated offenses in the league with, I believe, the highest rated redzone offense. It certainly can get better and more efficient, but it was far from average. Also Romo and Murray couldn't have been further from average.
