Meanwhile Phil and Wash look poised to finish 1-2 in the division leaving us battling for 3rd with a slew of NFC teams primarily in North and West division in a better position to battle for Wild Card slots.

I’d argue winning 8 or 9 games this year would be an improvement over last year. And that’s assuming we can stay healthier than last year. That will be enough to keep us in the playoff hunt but come up short.

Meanwhile, many of the shallow minded yappers on this site were putting all the blame on Prescott. No quarterback in the league could have "carried" a team with all these deficiencies. Meanwhile, if you were to give Prescott - say for instance - the Baltimore roster, he would have been back in the MVP conversation (if he had stayed healthy). It's remarkable how weird our fan base can be at times. But back to your original question - no, we will not be in the playoffs again this year. Because our ownership absolutely sucks at managing a roster / salary cap.

Absolutely sucks is being too kind.
We have not been to a NFCCG for 29 years for a very good reason.
Our GM has no clue how to build a team that excels in the playoffs.

Honestly I don't think the injury factor should be taken into account simply because that is an X factor that isn't going away anytime soon. It's only April and we already know that Overshown and Diggs are unlikely to be ready for the start of the year. You're also going to see some guys get banged up in camp. The Pittsburgh Steelers have made 'next man up' part of their culture and overachieve almost every year because of it. Detroit won 15 games with massive injuries last year.

I think the injury excuse becomes a better argument once you reach the post season. During the regular season all teams go through injuries. Typically good teams have enough pieces in place to work around the injuries. The issue with the Cowboys is they really didn't have enough good players a year ago.

I feel the same. These two aren’t capable by a long shot. Rock bottom is necessary, then just maybe there’s a small shot at change.

I don’t want to “make the playoffs” and have these two thinking that they are close, or what they are doing is working. It isn’t, and even when they do get the roster into decent shape, they refuse to put it over the top.

They’ve had failure after failure and sit up there and laugh and joke around as if things are great. That stuff trickles down on to the field.

It depends at times.
Detroit did not lose their QB.
SF did not lose their QB, but many other players as well. One team went on to lose the NFFCG, and many on here said, look at all their injuries. But now they say it should not matter.

Many fans on here act as if Purdy was the next Joe Montana, but he could not carry the team with all those injuries. Much of SF success was helped in previous years from a very good defense. But yet, they will use injuries as an excuse for them as well.

Dallas injuries, to there QB, but many fans act as if Rush was better. He was NOT. But they use that as an argument against Dak. However, most fans even if they lie Dak, knows he can't carry this team without all his starters, and has no defense to help.
But, this does not matter, because some fans are hypocritical.

Not very many teams can compete with numerous injuries. Now McCarthy took his GB team to the SB with many injuries, but he too had his starting QB, elite at the time.
Look at KC in the SB without their OL being healthy. One doesn't think that came into play with an excel TB defense?

Yes, there many questions and holes to fill. And we do not know if they did until we see them on the field.

I will say they can compete for that last WC spot at this point, if all stay healthy, and they get some players back that will start on PUP by week 6 or so.

They will not compete for the NFCE title. Philly will not drop off much, and may improve, since they know how to work FA and the draft better.
Washington will be improved. However, some will say, film will catch up to their QB as all does for 2nd year QB's. Well many do.

NFCE, 2 playoff spots. Maybe a team slips down, if they get the injury bug.
NFCN, 3 playoff spots easily over Dallas. So one of the teams needs to drop down. Could 2 teams drop down?
NFCW, 1 or 2 spots, so a team will need to drop off here as well.
NFCS, 1 spot

This is more like they are into year 2 of 3 for a soft rebuild plan.
But as we know it is a year to year league.

Our roster is better than people are giving us credit for, but our defensive holes are exploitable by teams with a balanced offense, and our weaknesses on offensive are likewise exploitable by a team with a similarly balanced defense. Unless we shore up that d-line, teams like Philly, Balt, and Detroit will run through us like tissue paper. Without more threats on offense, teams with solid secondaries and strong d-lines will dictate the pace of our offensive game.

Our best chance to make the playoffs might be to hope Daniels has the sophomore slump, with Washington not getting lucky with last minutes wins and falls back to the pack. This could happen, as our division has tough schedules this year, at least on paper.

Maybe GM Jerry hits on four picks this year. Maybe our new coaching staff can turn Mazi into a real 1T, Guyton works hard and becomes what we need him to be, Steele becomes at least an average starter again, our injured players return to form or better, etc. We can grab that last playoff spot IF everything goes our way. But that is one big IF.
