No praise for Byron Jones?

Wentz threw 0 passes at him and had a hamstring issue...through 7 weeks he doesnt get targeted much and goes Man 90% ..why does he get 0 praise for being a top CB....hes def athletic although not a ballhawk

He is a good player just don't believe he is great. He has a serious problem getting into position to get a pick, locating the ball and hanging onto it.

Byron Jones has a hamstring issue?
I don't think I heard his name mentioned once. The mark of a great cornerback.

It sucks he was stuck at safety for a few years. Should have been playing CB his whole career here. I don't think he'll get a contract though. Can't afford everyone and I imagine he's the odd man out.

Wentz barely throws to his receivers, so thats a part of the equation as well. But sure, great job Jones doing what you're supposed to do. Spend some time showing Chido how to do it to while you're at it.

This isnt true....

Because some fans only notice the interceptions. Shutting down your side of the field is not apparent enough.

Hypothetical - you can resign Byron or Quinn. Who you signing?

It depends on the defensive philosophy. If nothing changes, Quinn. If we change some type of philosophy like aggressive playcalling, blitzes etc. then it will be Jones to sign only because you need that kind of corner that can hold his own with little to no help.

If Zeke leaves Byron the odd man out I'll be furious.

If we let Byron go, it will be because he's asking for more than the front office believes a corner his caliber should receive. It will have nothing to do with Zeke.

Heard a lot of similar criticisms about Newman when he was in Dallas. Then people suddenly loved Newman when he was with Cincy and Minny even though he had fewer interceptions at both places.

I wanted to keep Newman as a third corner. His play slipped because of injury the year before he left, and he was still a good player. Had no idea he would hang around the league as long as he has, though.

A few of us praised him in the game thread and the post game thread, but sure a whole post dedicated to it works too.

Also, Wentz threw several passes at him, mostly in garbage time though. The pass to Ertz that was ruled out of bounds was right at Byron.

Imagine living in a world where there is a fixed pie to share and thinking the piece of the pie one person takes won't impact whats left for others to share. Just imagine it.

I can't imagine it because over here on Earth One we know that building a roster is about compromise.
