I know I'm going to get hammered for this post, but I just don't see the Cowboys picking a safety at #27. Here's my logic.

1) why would the Cowboys release Hamlin prior to the draft if they are not completly comfortable with Alan Ball or Mike Hamlin? There is no guarantee that the top 3 safeties will be there to draft to replace K. Hamlin, so I don't see them taking this risk, when they feel they are so close to a Super Bowl in a year when it's at the new stadium. Odds are very, very slim we start a rookie at FS and there is no way we are getting Earl Thomas or Eric Berry and those two would be the only one's I could see starting under Wade.

2) They have said all along they want to sign Sensabaugh to a long term deal, which means that it's a 99% chance of happening. In the past when they said they wanted someone to sign a long term deal, it got done. I haven't heard them say that about Spears or Canty/Burnett last year. So I'm confident the SS position will be locked up for the next 4-5 years with Sensy.

3) Ball played decent last year for his limited time, this is his 4th year and will more than likely will be soley focused on safety for the 1st time and not 4th CB.

4) Nothing but rave reviews about Mike Hamlin since pre-season last year. I think this is who will win the FS position.

So my pick at #27 is a CB. Either Kareem Jackson or Devin McCortney. Newman will be 32, has injuries and a big salary. One of these guys will learn for a year like Jenkins and become a starter in 2011. Scandrick is more of a slot guy. I see this being the last year for Newman.

Punch away.

I've also stated that assuming we stay at 27 that we likely go CB (McCourty hopefully).

Depends on who is on the board. I'll take a playmaking safety just as quick as any other position. Object is to bring in quality playmakers I'll gladly take an Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu type player because they make a big difference

According to NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock, "most people" have a second-round grade on Rutgers CB Devin McCourty.

And that's where we'll have him in our final mock. Though McCourty boasts highly impressive special teams ability, he demonstrated weak ball skills at Rutgers. Cornerbacks have to be able to make plays on the ball

If we get a CB or S in the first round they better have some ball skills because that is what we are missing in the secondary.

Have to agree. Only way it is someone else would be if Thomas or say McClain fall into the late teens and then I could see Jerry moving up for either of those guys.

IMO, many have McCourty as a late1st/early 2nd rounder. Given that we're at 27, and unless someone drops, that's about the right spot.

Ourlads, for example, has him as their 2nd rated CB, but they also see him as a 1st/2nd rounder.

I think you would be shocked to know that a lot of folks agree with you. Been quite a few discussions on this in the draft zone and many people have CB pegged at that number one spot.

We will know for sure in about seven days.

I think they'll do what they have said they were gonna do, take the highest rated guy. I think you can throw out QB, RB & TE, and probably anyone considered a NT only. Beyond that, its possible we'd draft just about any other position.

Now if they have several guys with similar grades at different positions and one of them is a safety, you can bet they'll take the safety.

I wouldnt mind McCourty with the first pick. However if we dont go safety with the either of the first 2 picks, I'd like to atleast see them try to bring in AOA in the third, if he's on the board still

I agree. We don't need no stinkin safety anyway.

Finally some real logic... I don't think Dallas will draft a safety in the 1st or 2nd round... O.J. Atowge is still available.

This is pretty much my take, DBOY3141. I think the team's short a safety, but pretty satisfied with the players we do have at that position.

A CB makes sense given the salary cap and Newman's age and our relatively lack of depth at that important spot. McCourty is one of my pet cats. Pouncey is the other of the realistic options. Behind Earl Thomas and Iupati, neither of whom seem realistic at this point without a move up.

I was thinking about your comment #1 after Hamlin was released. I think that it may be true and the release of Hamlin was the result of that. Also they may have done it to make other teams think that Dallas will draft a safety and make other teams move up or take a safety off the board in front of Dallas' pick. This would leave the pool of non-safeties a little more stocked for us. I may be thinking too much about it, but it is a theory.

I agree 100%.

If we stay at 27 the pick will either be Pouncey or Iupati if one is available. If not then either Jackson or McCortney.

If Dallas takes CB hopefully Wilson is still available over McCourty.

Not sure if he will last to our choice but Pouncey is the best player in the entire draft for this team.

:starspin  :starspin

Mark it down we trade out of the first round unless somebody falls. No way we pick at 27.

Possibilities:
Wilson
Iupati
Pouncey
Allen

Possible Reach:
Saffold (Dreaming I know)
