No Salary Cap on Coaches

Jerry is not cheap and he knows investing in the team is a sound financial investment. The team has the finest practice facilities and stadium in the league. I have little doubt if there were no salary cap that he would out-spend all the other owners.

But let’s bring one issue into focus. There is no salary cap on coaches and Jerry is likely soon going to need to hire some new ones.

Premiere coaches might be hesitant to come to Dallas because of Jerry’s penchant for undermining the HC’s authority, and his habit of sometimes creating a circus culture.

Big dollars talk to coaches just like they do with players. Jones is going to need to lure top coaching talent with the big bucks. And he’s going to need to create some guidelines where there is a harder boundary between ownership and the players.

For the aging Jones to secure another Super Bowl...he only has a few years (if any) of senility left. It’s now or never.

I remember a few years back there was talk about Sean Payton possibly wanting to come to Dallas but New Orleans was going to pay him an absurd amount and Jerry said something along the lines of he would never pay a coach that kind of money.

The OP is way off base here

Jerry has gone on record numerous times stating he doesn't think coaching is important and he doesn't have interest in spending top dollar on a HC..

Your quote on payton is just one of many

It amazes me how so many still struggle grasping Jerry’s personal agendas when it comes to coaching which could recieve more credit than him for building a championship team. He tried that with Jimmy and didn’t like it.

Jerry better look in the mirror and ask how much he *really* wants to win.

Sean Payton pay him $10 million
$20 mil. And $15 mil for Richard to handle all the defense.

And another $20 mil per year for McClay to say as functioning GM w/no title.

Whatever it takes to build a coaching dream team.

You forgot one factor in all this.. Jerry may want to, but they got cheapskate Stephen in the picture. And most likely his other two kids who also are part of the will...

I think he’s made it very clear he’s not interested in winning unless he’s involved and recieving the credit or at least more credit than he did with Jimmy.

I remember where I was when I first posted this:
“Jerry doesn’t want to win. He wants to win and get the credit”

It was 2008 and I was living in Alaska. Some people agreed with me then. More do so now.

But if this team comes in at 5-11...and tv ratings crater as they are already starting to do...the heat will be applied big-time.

But unless it effects the revenue it’s not going to change.

We’ve been thru the worst era in Cowboy history since our early expansion years and our revenue has continued to grow to record levels becoming not only the highest revenue generating NFL team but the wealthiest of all sports franchises in the world.

I’m not tracking with you. We were 22-10 over 2016 and 2017. Tickets sales and ratings good.

This year the offense has cratered and it’s unwatchable. There will be outcry for new HC and new QB. 5-11 could easily be on the horizon.

Jerry’s not willing to do whatever it takes to win.
Most valuable sports franchise on the planet; always at or near the top in virtually all of his league’s revenue streams.

Jerry DID what it took, and he IS winning.

I’m referencing this era or Century overall which has not been up to the standard of our championship pedigree but hasn’t effected the revenue accordingly.
