No time like the present

Connor McGovern can play center.

Joe Looney is around in case he's not ready. Let's not panic and ignore the Cowboys' real draft needs (defense).

Looney did a really good job filling the role in 2018, I think we’ll be fine
No he didn’t. Looney sucked. 60 sacks with looney as center. 28 sacks with a 70% Frederick at center.

if looney is our center we are cooked.

center is now one of our top priorities, looney is a scrub.

La’el Collins and Conor Williams sucked in 2018, that wasn’t Looney’s fault. Center is certainly a need now but resources need to be spent on this defense.

Doesn’t matter now. Can’t possibly fill all these holes in one year. Take bpa and move on. This year was a long shot anyway.

and looney was 100% a big part of the problem.

We had to have seen this coming.

But Looney to me is not a 17 + games player.

We need the next brick for the wall.

This team's identity is the OL.

Do not want to see us dither the talent of the OL trying to shuffle the deck with lesser bodies.

Once Beard established himself the whole team improved.

Just the way I see the problem.

If we really need to force the center pick, I would prioritize drafting Cesar Ruiz; he has a significant lead for best center on my board. Unfortunately he falls into the deadzone between our 1st and 2nd round pick, but I've always maintained that's where all the talent is anyways, so I'd be willing to take a loss on the trade.

Matt Hennessy would be solid, but he's projected as a 2nd rounder and I have him as a 3rd rounder.

I'm higher on Tyler Biadasz than others, but he's got a medical tag. He's slotted between the 3rd and 4th round, so I like the value.

Beyond that, I'd say don't force the need and figure out at training camp who is starting where between Joe Looney, Connor Williams, and Connor McGovern.

Biadasaz or Ruiz would be solid options.
McGovern played some center at Penn St...he could be our future there.
in the short-term....Joe Cool's got this.

I need to brush up on the draftees.

I just threw the thread up to get things started.

Thanx for your comments.

Before this happened I normally would agree.

But I remember how crap we were until Beard arrived.

Dak and Zeke will look very different without Fred.

All of the money dropped on Zeke and DAK could be completely wasted now.

You can not risk that now without a stud center.

No.

They will draft one at 17 or shortly after that if they feel there is more than one they want.

Wish it was not the case but...

You say that..

but that is more hope than fact.

With nearly $50 million/yr invested in Dak and Zeke..

would you risk not having a stud playing C in front of them?

Not I said the pig.

I have not seen Connor play a single down yet and he was out all year.

Looney is a capable backup and keeps everybody humored..

but is not a 17 game player at an All Pro level.

It will take probably two guys to replace Beard and still, they will struggle.

I assume the blocking calls and audibles will be given to someone else.

Not Connor or Looney.

Ruiz 6.37 (will be starter within first two seasons)
Cushenberry 6.35 (will be starter within first two seasons)
Hennessy 6.18 (good backup that could become starter)
Biadasz 6.16 (good backup that could become starter)
Harris 6.12 (good backup that could become starter)

I like Harris the most, in terms of value, and his lack of height isn't as much of a problem in a ZBS, though I do wonder if he'd ever be able to capture the outside shoulder of a 1T without help. Fred being able to do that made a lot of things easier for the rest of the OL.
