The skins were less than a million under the cap before free agency started and they have given HUGE contracts to Hall and Haynesworth.

Canty is set to visit today with the Skins and there is talk that they are pursuing Dockery as well.

Now how in the hell can a team that is 1 million under the cap sign Hall, Haynesworth, and possibly Canty and Dockery???

The cap is such a freaking joke.

Because they restructured contracts and let some contracts go to get under the cap. From my understanding letting springs walk saved them over $5 million alone and they also did their yearly restructuring of Samuels contract.

They freed up that much coin by releasing Springs and restructing everybody else???

Wow, they must have the best capologist in the league.

The Commanders have a clause put into every contract that states the player must restructure their deal every year.

They must have the best or one of the best because I have heard they were in cap hell the last 5-6 years yet they still are able to sign players when they want.

Makes you think.

Every year the next year is going to be "the Commanders suffer the consequences of the cap year". It just never happens (other than finishing last in the division and having years with no draft picks and averaging 12 points a game offensively).

The cap is a joke, most owners know their way around it now making the whole thing pointless

They let Dockery walk, then try to resign him? :laugh2:

There is no way they can sign Hanyesworth, Hall, Canty, and Dockery. They would be doing massive cutting to make that happen. Even if they did figure that out (I highly doubt since they will be competing with other teams with HUGE amounts of cap room) it would be so great once they die a horrible cap death once all those restructuring catches up with them.

Remember the cap hell of the 49ers / Cowboys of the late 90s early 2000s

There is a report out now that they used wanting Canty as leverage to get Albert. Word is Canty isn't going to visit with Washington today now and instead is going to Tennessee.

guys its ok. they are a useless football team. Champions of the off season do nOT win in January. Haynewworth is rich now and will have no desire to mix it up with BIGG in the trenches when it gets nasty! And i'd like to see him try a stomp move now that davis is here!!!

I'm not worried about this move. I think Albert if a very good player, even a great player at times, but he doesn't scare me. DHall CERTAINLY doesn't scare me. I could beat DHall deep for TDs.

Fat Albert is paid. Now he is on easy street. He never gave consistent effort when it wasn't a contract year. He dominated the last two years. The last two years were both contract years.

Albert Hanyesworth == Shaun Rogers now that he has been paid! :laugh2:

Wouldnt that be just awesome if he reverted and pretty much did nothing? Couple that with DHall getting paid all that money to watch him get turned into toast by good WR's would be beautiful.

Anyone could make these signings if they want to keep converting cap $$ into bonues and deferring salaries into the future. The downside is that they will be stuck in this mode each year of restructuring. They singed zero free agents last year and still are in the restructuring game. They can't get out of it now for years. Just know that they don't resign their own very often while the Cowboys do.

I think Danny is counting on at least one uncapped year where a lot of these bonuses and the such can be effectively eliminated. IF that does not happen we will be stuck for a LONG time. Some of the money is in option bonuses next year that, I think, Danny believes will be uncapped.

That sounds right to me. I saw that Hall's deal has 32 million guaranteed in 'the first thirteen months'. That's a pretty intriguing phrase, if you ask me. I expect Hall and Haynesworth and anybody else they sign are due to get ginormous bonuses this time next year under the assumption that it will be uncapped and never count against their cap.

yeah I do. The Coboys had to play by the rules while the 49ers were given a cap free year in 1994. I remember it clearly. Going into the draft, the 49ers were a mere few thousand dollars under the cap. There were articles in the Chronicle about the team being even unable to afford a draft class in the upcomming draft. The 49ers cut just two players and then signed not only their draft class, but an all star team of around 10 pro bowlers. Of course, they were found to have cheated the cap big time, but this was after they had already collected an ill gotten Super Bowl (which still wouldn't have been enough had Jimmy stayed IMO).

During the time of the 49ers blatantly ignoring the cap, the majority of the other owners in the league called on Tagliabue to investigate the 49ers for cap violations. He refused despite what was so obvious (and later confirmed as fact).

Fast forward a year. After the Cowboys had already lost something 11 players to free agency, thus freeing up loads of cap space. They had the nerve to sign Deion Sanders, and without any calls from the other owners, Tagliabue on his own decided to investigate the Cowboys for cap violations. Of course, Dallas wasn't guilty of any violations. We weren't having Sega pay Deion under the table to play for us like the 49ers were.

1994 was the most fixed year I have ever seen in the NFL. It was clearly obvious that Tagliabue allowed SF to ignore cap lwas, and stack their deck to derail the Cowboys juggernaut. Tagliabue hated the Cowboys with a passion. Just watch the grimmace on his face while handing Jerry a Lombardi after they beat the Steelers. He literally gritted his teeth.
