I have hope that he might turn into a player, but yes, I would be surprised.

What he has going for him is that he is a really physical corner with athleticism (which Dan likes) and has enough length for Quinn to work with. Here is his pre-draft write-up on
NFL.com:

Overview
Stocky but explosive receiver-turned-cornerback whose play generates both intrigue and concern. He's extremely physical from snap to whistle with the strength to alter route timing from press. He's a good athlete with a plus burst to close. He's naturally aggressive to ambush catch tries. Staying in phase on the vertical plane is a challenge and pattern recognition is surprisingly average. Improvement is likely with more experience and technique, but playing with downfield poise is not guaranteed. He's good in run support and offers early special teams help as he continues to learn his craft.

Strengths

  • Very strong and very physical
  • Explosive athleticism
  • Tremendously competitive with outstanding practice habits
  • Treats press jam like a sparring session
  • Repetitive strikes to inside shoulder help grind on the release
  • Instant acceleration to open and chase
  • Low center of gravity for quicker change of direction
  • Shows ability for early recovery in short spaces
  • Aggressive challenges diminish receivers' focus at catch point
  • Heavy chops through receivers' arms and hands force incompletions
  • Good balance and radar as open-field tackler
  • Two career kick return touchdowns and gunner talent
Weaknesses
  • Very raw with just two years playing the position
  • Lacks natural footwork and fluidity in space
  • Inconsistent mirroring release and timing up his opening
  • Slow to sort what he sees from off coverage
  • Eye balance between receiver and quarterback is lacking
  • Plays with all power and no finesse
  • Below average at staying in phase with the route
  • Panic sets in with his back to the ball
  • Yellow flags find him when he doesn't find the ball
  • Tackles up high and needs to lower his target aim

The traits that I bolded give some hope that Quinn might do something with him. However, if he doesn’t learn to play the ball and can’t do better locating the ball in the air, he will continue to disappoint. It certainly was worth a shot and getting him to try to fix is better than just cutting Joseph outright.

My expectations are pretty low, but you never know. His physicality and athleticism does give me some hope, as does having Quinn to mold him.

It would surprise me. First off, I can't pronounce his name. But seriously, watching him run back that blocked kick against the Giants, he did not look particularly fast. Miami let him go for a reason and you just don't give up on 1st round picks that quickly. CBs need makeup speed. I am already concerned Gilmore has lost a step or two in that department.
Perhaps another team has corners more to your liking.

Would it surprise anyone if DQ molded this former first round pick into a good CB that actually lives upto his potential? I am not betting against DQ. May turn in a quality trade...already showed up on teams.
No, it wouldn't, but I think Al Harris deserves a lot of credit for what he as done with the DBs up to this point too.

Good bloodlines - both of his parents were Olympic athletes for Nigeria.

I liked Iggy coming out of Auburn, but Bro looked slow on that return and he's struggled at MIA. So, really idk what to think about this guy. I will say the odds are against him because I see a premium pick CB on the way next draft, and maybe even a FA.

Eric Scott looked slow during the preseason games…
Scott has to show something at some point because the Cowboys gave him a much needed roster spot. I suspect there is not a backup C on the 53 man roster because Scott took up a spot. Although I could make the same argument for the 4th RB.

I was really disappointed in the way Scott played in preseason - against backups and scrubs. But he is a rookie and hopefully they can bring out of him what they think the saw when the drafted him.

Irrelevant. It is about what the Cowboys have and what they can do to create depth at the position. No one is trading away a starting CB 2 games into the season unless they get a premium price.

Since Igbinoghene was compensation for Kelvin Joseph we have to assume he has been unable to produce to the level he was drafted.

According to one article he fits more as a man cover corner which should align more with the scheme Quinn runs as opposed to the umbrella zone Miami has been using! Now whether that’s more than just happy thoughts remains to be seen!

Beat me to it. I was going to say it probably has more to do with how Al Harris can coach him up vs. DQ.

With that said, I'll be amazed if he turns out to be a quality player for us. Teams just don't trade former 1st round picks for loose change unless they don't believe in that player. Weirder things have happened though, so I will keep up that hope.
