Norm Hitzges thinks it's less than 50% likely Terry Glenn plays this year

His opinion. He suggested that the cartilidge repair was pretty serious, and that at this age he felt it was less than 50% likely Glenn would return. I don't think he has more detailed surgery reports than anyone else, but when Norm asked Jerry the other day if there was a chance that Terry Glenn might not come back at all this season, Jerry was quick and direct by loudly saying "YES" that was a possibility. Might be worse than all had hoped. Hope not.

I'm curious as to why the Cowboys wouldn't have put Glenn on IR and let him sit the minimal 6 game stretch? Even if he does heal fast, why would we rush him back before the last couple games of the season? We want Glenn for December and the playoffs, otherwise let him heal and strengthen and let the young guys develop out there.

I hope his knee is good enough to play another couple of seasons for Dallas. I think Glenn should get spot duty from now on anyway as the deep threat. He is a style of receiver we lack without him in lineup, and gives us that extra dimension.

Hope he heals alright and can resume his career for a year or two. He would be that one extra nice weapon for the stretch run. No hurry, just be our deep threat last 2 games of regular season and the playoffs!

IR means done for the year, their only option was to keep him as an inactive if he is to come back this season. When it comes to a condition like this of course it isn't going to be definite, but after the surgery it was reported that it went well. So it really matters how the knee responds to rehab and if there is a setback as in more problems with the cartilage, swelling etc.

He followed that with It is also a good possibility he will play again this year. To me this is just taking a part of quote and speculating. JJ gave a typical response to the question with out lying or indicating one way or the other. I beleive the reason TG had the surgery is because he had a greater than 50% chance of playing this year or else he would have elected for the other type of surgery. (of course that is just me speculating ;) )

I thought there was a 6 game IR status before season starts which allows you a further 3 weeks (after the 6 games are missed) to activate the player. Might only be available during early pre-season for players I guess and they didn't want to restrict Glenn's availability if he could come back earlier.

The way Hitges said it today in post-game and the way Jones answered a couple of days ago, it didn't sound great for Glenn, although they were both very sparse in details regarding how rehab is going. I didn't see anything about how surgery went either way.

Thanks for clarifying.

Hmm I missed the part where Jerry gave the flip side and positive statement regarding Glenn having a good chance to play. Makes me feel better, thx.

Bet he plays this year and plays well. I guarantee he's anxious as heck to get out on that field and for that, HE WILL...

playing well would be a stretch....he will be a decoy and good for 2 catches a game...he is close to being done

He will likely play this season. he'd have been done had he gone microfracture surgery. He shortened his career to play this year.

Give the kid some love.

Yep, Glenn took one for the team for the chance to contribute to a potentially special, maybe even SUPER, season!

I give him credit. It just sounded from Norm that the knee is a bit uglier than hoped. He was light in the meniscus department in that knee for a few years already, and now has had 2 procedures in the last couple of months. Might be bone on bone and constantly sore. Can affect speed and cutting. Bobby Orr syndrome, although the surgeries are light years ahead of those days.

He deserves a nice playoff run for sacrificing his bod.

I think you are thinking of PUP (physically unable to perform). I think you can only use that before week 1, but Im not positive.

Yep, I was thinking of PUP. I too, don't know if that status is available after start of season. Still don't know why they didn't put Glenn on that list unless they thought there was a good chance he'd be back before 6 weeks.

Maybe we don't need the roster spot. Frees up a spot doesn't it?

Jerry was indeed direct and succinct with his reply to Norm but if any of you have listened to this interview and are familiar with Norm you realize that he is an over the top and drama fanning personality.

Jerry even chastised him for being ridiculous with a couple of his assertions during the course of the broadcast.

Norm tries hard, but Norm doesn't know any more than anyone else, and often times he knows less.

I go back to listening to Norm over 10 years ago when he was on KLIF every morning, but after some of the things I've heard him say the last couple years, I wonder if he isn't losing it. He says some pretty oddball things sometimes.

At the beginning of training camp a player must be placed on the PUP list. this is the only time a player can be placed on PUP. When the rosters are paired down you are put onto the active PUP for the first 6 weeks of the season but you had to have been on PUP since the beginning of TC to be eligible for that.

If you are not placed on PUP in the beginning or if you come off of PUP to practice for TC then you are not eligible for the reg season 6 week active PUP list.

Many thanks. I understand it now. Explains why it wasn't done before also.

Cheers.
