How often do you ever see the Patriots trade up?

Not very often, but someone made a good point recently - eventually, they'll have to actually use the picks that they've acquired.

This could be that time.

Yeah, so I go back to my point that maybe he should be the Cowboys pick. RR supposedly loved him.

please dont get fleeced JJ,we should only drop down to 17 if we get something better than 60th.

I like getting future compensation. It gives you so much flexibility in the draft.

Calm down, people. Pats have a few options at the top and Jordan isn't their #1 priority.

At least we're actively talking with them much like the teams in front of us.

Didn't they do it in '09 when they thought it was a weak draft to get Vollmer and then later for someone else?

And this year is a weak draft, too. Hmm.

If the Cowboys traded their 9th pick for the 17th and 60th, they would be getting robbed blind. They have a chance at a blue chip player and they would trade down for a 2nd, and probably 5th tier player.

Hell NO!

Dallas is talking about giving up a third to guarantee Peterson but only getting a slightly better pick than their 3rd rounder to move down 8 slots and pray?

No thanks.

You must have been asleep last year when we got #24 from them for less than what they wanted from us

They moved down three spots because they knew the guy they wanted would still be there and picked up an extra third rounder. That was a great deal for them.

Look at the recent drafts and you'll see that's just about the right price to move up to the Cowboys spot. It's even an overpay if you really look at it closely.

To give you an example, that's a bigger pot than what the Cleveland Brown got for trading with the Jets from #5 to that same #17 spot and the Browns were trading a pick that represented a potentialy franchise type QB in Mark Sanchez.

So we're trading out because Jerry can't afford to pay the top draft pick? :laugh2:

Well, that's one way to look at it. Money does come into consideration as it should. Why in heavens would you want to pay a player #9 pick money when you can get the same, or similar player, at #13, 15, 17.. etc, and save yourself 15 million dollars ?

This is just Jerrah doing his homework. If there's no shot at PP, there's no use in staying at #9. Get out of there, get an extra pick or two, get the same or similar player a few picks down, and save a ton of money.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

You can get another blue chip player at 9. PP isn't the only blue chip player in the draft and isn't the only player worth taking in the top 10. Trading down just for the sake of trading down is stupid if you're not getting the proper value, which we wouldn't be in this deal.

Who would you say are the other blue chippers at 9?

Didn't the Browns also get players in that deal?

Yeah, if your scouts are morons and just bunch all the players together after #9, it makes perfect sense.

Anything and everything can happen in the 8 picks between 9 and 17.

You can watch Tyron Smith, Castonzo, Carimi, Watt, Jordan, and Pouncey all go.

Heck, maybe we can watch Jerry and Co get caught again with their collective pants down like they were two years ago?

And we'll see another trade down at a loss and end up with another bunch of JAG's like 2009 netted us...

No one knows if there is a blue chip player in this draft, except for marcell Dareus. And PP according to this board.

Well Cam Jordan, who the Pats are obviously lusting after. He'd fit perfectly in our defense. I consider Smith to be a blue chipper. There's not a lot of guys, but Smith will likely be there.

You probably could, but who is it going to be ? The Cowboys aren't going to use it on a QB. They've made it clear they're not interested in Fairley. I'd love for them to get my guy Robert Quinn if he falls there, but that's not going to realistically happen and I understand their reasoning. They don't need a WR so forget Julio Jones.

So who else ? Offensive tackle ? Is there really a huge difference between Smith and Castonzo or Carimi that's worth the extra millions of dollars it would cost ?

DE ? Huge difference between Watt, Bowers ( injury concerns ), Jordan, Wilkerson ?

Is ANY of those guys worth the #17 and #60th pick of the draft ?

That's something that must be taken into consideration.
