TO has stated recently that he wants to play and retire and go into the Hall of Fame as a Cowboy. I completely believe him.

I think that will definitely happen barring anything unforeseen that could physically happen to him that would prevent it.

This continued referral to the June 1st and a trade for Chad Johnson makes no sense. We aren't going to trade our #1 pick next year to do that and we don't have anybody we will trade of equal value that Cincy would take to do a deal.

Why does Norm keep droning on and on about it..?

:horse:

Jones wants TO on this team because he sells tickets and he's got a new stadium to fill shortly and TO is part of the Romo-TO-Witten offensive player jugernaut that Aikman-Smith-Irvin-Novachek used to be in the 90's.

We are just waiting on the RB situation to clear and see if MBIII or Felix Jones or a combination of the two then becomes the 4th player(s) in the new offensive juggernaut of this era.

Enough with the hand wringing and the 'what-ifs'.

Is there any question right now who the best receiver on the club is?

Absolutely not.

Now, let's go to player you can least afford to lose on the team. Where does Terrell Owens rank on the player you can least afford to lose?

(Other guy) Right next to Tony Romo.

Norm again: I'd say Romo 1. And 2a and 2b are Demarcus Ware and Terrell Owens. Because Ware is the constant pressure and the constant focus of defenses. Owens has - by his play - and by the way by staying pretty dog gone healthy, which has not been a mark of Owens's career before this either, he has become a very difficult to lose or replace player.

It then becomes a bit curious that he heads into the last year of his contract, the lowest paid year of his contract, as he reaches his middle 30s, and there is no, from what we can tell, significant discussion of contract. And an extension. He has one year left on his contract; no option. Terrell Owens will be, after this season, a free agent in the NFL.

Now, there, by the way, lemme point out the Cowboys have other people like this. Ken Hamlins' on a one year - as a franchise player. And the Cowboys, could cut a deal with Hamlin then put the franchise tag on Owens. That could be done. So there are ways for the Cowboys to keep Owens without a new contract. After next year. And go year to year with Owens. That...that's a conceivable approach for the Cowboys also.

But given the importance of Owens to the club and given the fact that in the past Owens has felt dissed, contractually, he's gone bananas. It is kind of odd that the Cowboys don't have something working to extend - right now. I'll say it again; right now do not have things working.

For instance, if they cut a contract with Hamlin in the offseason, which I still think is the aim of the club, once June 1st gets here, salary cap yeah, huh, boom, reh, ehh, reduce the impact this year, create some space, thank you very much.

Maybe there'll be some other contractual moves. We mentioned one yesterday, regarding Roy Williams. I don't know that. But, its kind of odd that Owens is out there saying that "I don't intend to be a distraction to this club." Thats 180 degrees from the Owens of past stops who, when, when, he even thought his situation in Philadelphia was endangered, he went bananas frito. Bananas, when he was, bananas during the year. Before he, he, eventually, everything blew up.

(Its halfway done, how badly do you want the other half summer?)

Its just kind of odd to me that, that, there wouldn't be a 2 year extension in place. Ah, in, in fact, if you did put a 2 year extension in place, you could even cut your cap down this year, if that's what you wanted to do.

Ah, because Owens, uh, this year counts (lip smack) 5, I believe, 5 against the cap Frito, I believe.

I uh, uh, uh, I lose track there are so many of these cap figures floating around out there. But its kind of odd to me, no just-curio, no odd (make up your damn mind already), curious that there doesn't seem to be any talk floating around that negotiations have even been approached regarding this.

Other dude: Let me ask you this, Norm. Because I am under the belief that if you're a Super Bowl contender, that you don't want any of your key players, regardless of their character, regardless of what they've done in the past, you don't want any of your key players worrying about a contract.

Norm: Here is where I think this could become a little sticky. Right now, I don't think T.O. is upset because I think T.O. understands there aint anybody coming along that is gonna replace me. C'mon. I mean, like Sam Hurd, like Patrick Crayton, like young Isaiah Stanback, give me a break here. Are any of these people T.O.? I don't think so.

Well, Mark, what happens to this situation, if on June 1, the Cowboys acquire Chad Johnson?

Uh-oh. Who's the endangered species on this team, Frito all of a sudden?

T.O.

Other dude: Ya think?

Norm: Well, Chad Johnson would be the young perceived receiver of the team for the next several years and T.O. would be under a perform or adios. Or perform or we'll give you a one year contract offer or things like that.

I'm think, what I'm thinking here is T.O.'s situation right now, TO's in charge. He is the best player at Wide Receiver on the club, without question.

Other guy: See I don't think a guy like TO is worried about performing. I think he is worried about getting injured and not having a contract.

Norm: Well, but again, doesn't the presence of Chad Johnson or someone like that make him, I'm going to use the word expendable? It does not make him as valuable, I think is the better phrase.

Other guy: Maybe to this team, but I think a guy like TO knows that if TO performs, he's gonna have a contract somewhere. But, if TO gets injured, he's SOL.

Norm: Well, I think all those things come into play. If the Cowboys create a situation where they have another option that they have acquired. Right now, I think TO sits in the (something) seat, realizing, fine, I'm the lead receiver here and making nice money this year, but I'm very much in agreement with you.

But it has to to be in the head of a veteran player, my contract is up. Do I think TO is gonna become a distraction here? Not right now, I don't believe so, because he is king of the hill. He's King of the Hill here. But things change. Things change. And T.O. could well, if this thing goes through 3, 4 months, camp opens, nothing is happening, someone else is acquired, it could well give him second thoughts on his future and whether or not its here.

TO wants a ring. He is not going anywhere and he will not be a problem. Jerry will take care of him and TO knows it. It is possible that with an additional player or two they could be as good as the 90s team.

I think one of Jerry Jones' strengths is creating a lasting bond between himself and his players. I think T.O. is about money, but maybe even more so, he wants to be appreciated for what he brings to the table. He wants to be acknowleged and appreciated as being one of the best. I think Jerry Jones does a great job of letting his players know that HE appreciates what they do for him. I think the fact that T.O. is happy is not an accident. You can bash Jerry all you want, but this type of situation is unique to the Cowboys organization, and is paying dividends for us at this point.

I dont think TO is all about the money. The guy is too real. He wanted fair market value.

Agreed on th rest.

We all know that if TO comes up to a milestone that Jerry will give TO the celebration that Philly would not, did not for TD milestone.

Thats just one of the many differences between a class organization and trash organization.
