I've listened to Norm for over 25 years... he is puzzling today...

He said he loved the pick, but we gave up too much... I disagree... this would have cost multiple picks in the past...

He also said we didn't really improve...

He is missing the point that Jenkins is a weakside CB... as is Carr... Claiborne is strongside... we just improved a GREAT deal...

He also keeps harping on the point that part of the trade was because Jerry likes being the "buzz" of the draft... TOTALLY offbase on this one...

The Rams called US...

Naysayers keep calling and saying we needed to fill too many other holes... one pick in the second doesn't fill "many other holes"... it's ONE pick/player... everyone keeps acting as if we traded the whole draft for this move...

On ESPN they reported that we should have had to also give up a 4th on top of the 2nd according to the chart. We stole him. On the Bucs forum people are craying saying that Jerry bend their GM over. :laugh2:

I agree. We will have a 3rd and 2 4th rd picks and frankly would not be shocked if Dallas can make a move to get back to the 2nd. But even if we don't getting an elite player is worth it. I think there are some good players in this draft but only a small handful of elite and in my view we got one of them last night.

At first I thought we paid too much, but that was due to a lack of understanding of the quality of player we got. We got the top defensive player in the draft for the 14th pick in the draft plus our 2nd round draft pick.

Norm is a draft junkie. This is his favorite weekend of the year ahead of all other sporting events maybe except the Kentucky Derby.

Because of his passion for the draft, he overvalues all draft picks and believes you can get 4-5 starters out of the draft each year. While true in theory, it's really hard for an NFL to do that.

More than likely, the cowboys gave up good player and a fringe starter who will be off the roster in 4 years to get Claiborne, who has the chance to be an elite player.

Norm's almost like the super draftniks that are mad that now we don't have a second rounder for them to talk about... Regardless of how much it actually helps the team.

Edit, texmex posted at the same time I did, but basically what he said.

Moving up to the 6th spot for only a 2nd was a steal..it only hurts because we only had one 2nd..if we had 2 it wouldn't even have been felt

Could the player selected in the second round be a starter for the Cowboys? Quite possibly! BUT, you know that Claiborne(save there is an injury) will start and make this team better immediately. The bird/hand bush theory, I guess. And speaking of that hand thing, when I was a junior in high school...

I don't give the Cowboys a pass for anything anymore because I'm tired of watching us underachieve but this pick was a homerun.

We got the best defender in that draft who plays a premium position.

If he's a Cowboy for 10 years than nobody will even remember what we gave up to get him.

Norm is wrong. Simple as that. Like has been mentioned, he over values picks.

Agreed...in the past ten years, this is the very first time that I have been satisfied with the cornerback mix.

Goose is doing the same thing...

"Cowboys still need a pass rusher, interior lineman and TE... I don't know how they do that now"...

Again... ONE PLAYER does not fill all of those needs...

The faux concern over this is just for show... ridiculous...

Everyone has a different theroy of how to BUILD a team.

It's not wrong to think we can pick a CB in the 2nd and get a starting DL in the 1st.

During draft time, everyone OVERVALUES draft picks. That's why Samuels got traded for a 7th rounder.

He and Goose are both right about we still having needed at DL/OL and S. We need starters in those positions.

Norm is dead on, Dallas essentually gave up a first, a second and Jenkins for claiborne...that's 3 for 1...and I'd argue Jenkins wasn't the problem with this defense last year, in fact Jenkins was probably the third best player on the defense last year after Ware, our only pass rusher and Lee....Pass rush is the biggest problem on this team and Dallas did nothing to corrrect it. The Giants have four pass rushers, Dallas has one, there's your problem!!!

Pass rush makes your corners better, not the other way round

And the signing of Carr and drafting of Claiborne only shows, Campo wasn't the problem, he has crap to work with and it only was made worse with no pass rush

Good grief...

Norm just said that the Rams should have stayed put at 6 because the Cowboys only gave them a 2... Goose agreed...

Just wow... talking out of both sides of their mouth...

and Goose is DEAD on defensive line pass rush and offensive lines are the keys to winning Superbowls, but Jerry is interested in flash over substance and that's why Dallas will never win under Jerry Jones leadership..

listen...this team gave up a 1st, 3rd and 6th for Roy Freaking Williams....plus paid him 45m....we gave up very little to land someone our scouts said had the highest grade of any CB coming out of college since Deion! Let that sink in for a moment. Now whether or not he will be great at the NFL is a different story...but that can be said about EVERYONE getting drafted this weekend. But when you think about all of the CBs coming out of college since Deion (Champ, Revis, Newman, Peterson, Hall etc...).....this was highway robbery as far as I am concerned. What 2nd round DL is projected to be the next Richard Seymour? None of them. So let's enjoy potentially the next Deion...as opposed to missing out on the next Ebenezer Ekuban!

We were NOT re-signing Jenkins... even the liquor store guy said so...

This is the best CB prospect in quite a few years... I would have liked to have Fletch as well, but we went with the TOP defensive player in the draft... there were 6 blue chippers... we got one of them...

Again, the Rams called US, Jerry wasn't looking around to make headlines... even Goose said that trade, from the Rams perspective, was the result of a rookie GM not getting value for moving up that far in the first...

You hate the pick? Criticize it all you want, but it wasn't a result of Jerry trying to be flashy...

I think that when Norm says that, he's thinking 2 players. It's not Claiborne plus another guy, it's, say, an OL and a DL, since they already picked up Carr.

Personally, I'm torn. On one hand, Goose is right, the Cowboys still have major OL and DL issues, and no way to address them in the draft. I'll take a pass rusher over a cover guy every day, but there just wasn't an elite passrush prospect to be had in this draft. Then, on the other hand, Claiborne is a major talent and over the long-term, is probably the best player that Dallas could've hoped to get without giving up next years draft.

From a long-term view, this is probably a good move. I just don't think it's going to pay the massive short-term dividends some people think that it will. It does nothing to replace the multitude of jags in the front 7.
