Nothing earth shattering but in case anyone liks to listen to him but couldn't:
Things we wish we hadn’t learned
1) That the O line needs serious overall - 2 new starters and backups
I think it's not as serious as it was earlier in the year. I think the O-Line is much better now that Garrett is in charge and they simply needed tougher coaching and tougher practices.
That being said, we need to start the overhauling process now. At least 60% of the starters need to go by 2012 and probably more like 80%. And then we'll need backups for those guys. If Sam Young can do something, that would be a HUGE help.
2) That Alan ball is good spec teams player and nickel but is a liability as safety
Yeah. I tried to stick up for him, but his tackling is just so bad. We are covering TE's better than we have in quite some time, but that may be due to our inability to cover #1 WR.
Yep.
4) Tired of waiting for Spencer to make a difference-Butler deserves to compete for the job
I agree. Spencer was a big reason for huge issues with the defense early on. He simply didn't want to maintain his gaps and it killed us. I think with Garrett as HC, he knows he can't play that game for long. Butler should certainly compete. This is far from our issue on defense, but they should have a competition next season.
5) We should be worried about Mike Jenkins
Yes and no. Yes because he's a player that needs to have a coach that stays on him. No because he's got the ability if a coach stays on him. I think he's played pretty well since the Minny game, but like the Minny game, the guy can't catch a break.
6) Have players who’s age is concern (Newman, Brooking, Kosier, Colombo, Davis)
Well, that's common with every team. Personally I keep Newman and Kosier and let the rest go.
7) There’s a Depth problem at WR, O line, D Line, LB, secondary (QB, RB, TE-only areas w/depth)
I disagree. We only have depth issues because we've had a boat load of injuries. I think WR is very deep. Same with D-LIne and LB. I'd take a motivated Jenkins, Newman, Scandrick and McCann.
8) Peed away whole 2009 draft
Uhh...let's wait on this one.
It looks like John Phillips has very nice potential to be the best #3 TE in the game. Buehler has major potential. We don't know what Ogletree is or isn't. Same with Brewster. Let's say Philips turns into the best #3 TE in the game and Beuhler is a top FG kicker who is the best kickoff guy in the league and Olgetree makes a nice #3 WR or valuable #4 WR (assuming we spread it out more)...would you call that a wasted draft? I wouldn't. I wouldn't call it great either, but still picked up some valuable parts.
