When looking at Norv Turner's record as a head coach, I can't help but wonder what it would look like if he had not left the Cowboys and had taken over as head coach when Jimmy Johnson left.
I'm not excusing what Turner did as a head coach in Washington and Oakland, but I do believe he'd have a Super Bowl on his resume (just like Barry Switzer) if he had not left Dallas. The reason for that is Turner likely would have done just like Switzer in keeping most of the coaching staff intact and I think Switzer showed the Cowboys didn't need a dynamic head coach to succeed the first couple of years after Johnson left.
That being said, even though this is not the 1990s Cowboys, I do believe they are better set up for success than any team Turner has coached. I don't know if he can capitalize on that if he's hired, but if he can't then to me he will have proved without a doubt that he's a great OC but a bad HC.
