i copied a list of prospects from GBN. of those listed below, who would make a good nose tackle? I'm usually not one to buy into Longhorn hype, but Frank Okam is the real deal when it comes to clogging the interior line. He's not a pass rusher, but he's a manchild when it comes to controlling the line of scrimmage. Ken Scott from Texas Tech is pretty good too ... not a lot of physical talent, but he's relentless, all day, high motor guy. Kind of a Chad Eaton type without the trash talking.

Those are the guys I like that can play the 3-4. Top two are day one picks and the bottom two are day two picks.

As a State fan I have been very impressed with Tank Tyler. Can't imagine as an NC State fan why they lost so many games last year with Williams and Lawson on the end, and McCargo and Tyler up the middle. Also, Hoyte and Tullock at LB. Sorry about that state rant, but do like Tyler.

I assumed Tyler was going to be a good prospect because of the Defensive players the Pack has put out the past couple of years. That said, I've never seen him play. Or very many of the rest of the guys.

Isn't the typical size BP has in mind for NT somewhere around 6-0 to 6-2, and 300-310 pounds...? A lot of guys on that list fit that bill including Tyler, but Okam and Branch may be too big...??

I want a guy that will not only clog the middle but able to push the pile and force penetration up the middle on pass plays. Prevent the QB from being able to step up. Have to admit my guy would be about 6'0 and around 320-330; in other words a guy that virtually no center could handle by himself. And that would fully tie up the center and one guard on virtually every play.

Fergie is 6'-3", so I don't think 1 or 2 inches will make that much of a difference. Plus once the combine comes around, these guys may shrink that much.

hard not to like the Mich and Texas kids, esp the Mich kid when he's playing on the best D in the country.
Of course, it might be easier to wait out Fergi and go sign a FA there. I really hated to see Pepper Johnson walk.
Wonder if Spears could play there....esp given the way Ratliff and Coleman have been playing on the end.

Alan Branch and Jay Alford. Both can take on double teams successfully, but Alford is the better pass rusher, which we desperately need.

I'm of the belief that Parcells doesn't care if the guy is 6' or 6'5", 305 or 350. What I sense is that he wants ALL OF HIS PLAYERS at a weight in which they perform their best. I believe that if Ferguson was able to play a full 16 game schedule, at full strength for 45 plays a game, @ 330pounds, Parcells would let him. The fact is that Bill believes that Fergy wears down to fast at that weight. If Shaun Rogers was on this team at his current listed weight (345) and playing at a Pro Bowl level, Parcells wouldn't mind.

IDK... pass rushing just isn't that much of a concern with a 2 gap NT.

I say the bigger the better. If we can get a guy weighing about 330 I think thats great. Remember he will be rotating so I would not expect them to wear down too badly during the course of the season.

Since we're on Big 12 NTs... What about this Red Bryant from A&M? He's 6-5, 324, and was on the Sporting News All-American Freshman team with guys like Okam, Adrian Peterson, Sam Baker, and Ko Simpson. Also on the A&M Leadership Council. I haven't been able to find much on him, maybe partly because he's a junior.

Well lets just say Red Bryant requires double teams... needs to improve his pass rushing technique but he is solid against the run. I like what I've seen from him. Not sure if he is coming out this year though.

Alan Branch is more in the mold of a Spears and Seymour.

All the best NT are under 6'3 he is something like 6'6. He'd be a DE in a 3-4.

I agree... but I think BP would take a guy who he knew could command double teams before he would take a guy who couldn't do that but was a better pass rusher.
