Not a popular thread... Witten's performance

I love Witten, however, if he catches the 2 long balls thrown to him there is a good chance we win that game. I'm not saying he cost us the game or anything like that, but it would have been a lot different if he made those catches. We are spoiled with how good he has been. I hope this was just a 1 game thing and not a trend.

dudes been so consistent and reliable that after one bad game, a game every NFL pro has had, people are saying he's washed up. dang

He's far from washed up, but he did derail our offensive game plan last week.

I've got a feeling with his fighter's mentality, he probably won't know when to hang them up. He's still young though, but also came into the league young.

Let's see how he responds. Knowing Witten, he's more pissed at himself than all of us combined. Watching the tape this week must have killed him inside.

Let's just see how he responds. If he continues dropping passes? Well.. I think it's obvious what should be done.

Me personally, I had the game taped to watch again, but just didn't have the heart. Hopefully they had the heart to do that(because it obviously wasn't evident on the field on Sunday that they had any)!

He's not washed up but he is probably not near 100%. If any of you believe that his poor performance didn't effect the games outcome you're deluding yourselves.

With any other player, the coaches would practice him until they can see that he will perform at satisfactory levels. You could tell by Garrett's press conferences that Witten's desire and pressure to get in the Giant's game may have effected Garrett's decision to put him in.

Sorry but that is WAY to much power for ANY player to have.

It's obvious that the young TE's should get an opportunity until Witten is not only 100% but can prove his performance in practices before he starts in games. M. Bennett always said he was never given a fair shot. Let's not prove that joker right by playing an injured Witten regardless of how it effects games.

<admitted subtext> REALLY pissed off about the crucial drops regardless of the Senator's past history with the team. I think current performance trumps historical performance EVERY time!

LOL, he's not "injured". You don't feel a spleen injury unless it's leaking blood into your abdomen.

He sucked last week. Leave it at that. I don't expect another game from him like that this year.

Pretty much everyone sucked against Seattle. How about leaving it at that?

But those were four game-changing drops from Witten, as were Dez' two. The whole complexion of that game changed with each drop.

I agree. I still like Witten but he had a bad game there is no question about it. He has said the same thing. Fans expect more from Witten and Witten expects more from himself. Part of being human is we all have off days, in the case of Witten he has had very few off days but last sunday clearly was just that.

I agree, but people singling out Witten when there were many other players who were about as bad just doesn't seem right to me.

For example, the Jones fumble...if ever there was something to set the tone for the game, that was it. Then the blocked punt. The missed block by Murray that contributed to Romo's pick. Hell, the Romo pick itself. Romo should know by now to not throw it up into traffic like that. I'm a biiiig Romo fan, but that mistake pissed me off more than any of Witten's drops.

And if that wasn't enough, the Seahawks basically owned the 4th quarter. The Cowboys had what, 7 plays...something like that. I'm kind of with Shango on this one...everyone was equally pathetic.

so maybe he doesn't feel it but he may be feeling the CB and Safety steps coming in to re-arrange all his internal organs.

I'm just saying practice more than just Witten and then go with the best performer. If Witten is back to his old self, he'll blow away the competition right?

I mean what the hell's the problem here? Witten has 4 Drops? You think it's just a coincidence that the guy has a lacerated spleen and then has one of the worst games in his career?

There are only 16 games. I'm not down with this benefit of the doubt crap. If Witten is in there Romo's forcing it in there to him in clutch situations so we gotta make sure he's firing on all cylinders.

Witten will probably be fine this season. He no longer can get deep though. Dallas let Bennett go, maybe it was for the best but it kills me seeing all the success he is having with freaking NYG.

To think that cincinatti offered Dallas a first round pick for him three years ago and now he is gone for nothing, Dallas has no replacement in sight (hanna maybe?) and he left for nothing to a rival.

makes me scream

Actually I see this as one of the issues the Cowboys have had over the years. They don't know when to cut dead weight, nor do they seem to know when younger players are ready to start. Keith Brooking, Terrance Newman, Bradie James, Roy Williams (WR & SS) should have been released 1 to 2 years prior. Tony Romo, Miles Austin, and Felix Jones are examples of players that should have been given an opportunity to start sooner. Just my opinion.

As far as Witten is concerned, I said two years ago we should trade him for a high draft pick or two and move on. I really don't think he would be missed as much as people think. Unfortunately, I think it is now too late.

:headscratch:

He'll bounce back.

But he is getting on in age.

Phillips, I'd like to see him get more throws his way.
Ever body ages and is eventually replaced. Just ask Novacek, who, at last report, was selling metal roofing.

Well, he definetely wasn't alone in making errors. One thing I know is when
he gets right he'll be a force again this season.

Time for Tampa.
