I'm pretty sure the seniors this year were a 2nd or 3rd ranked class coming in. Nice job Mack.

I am stunned that not one team liked Jeffcoat enough to throw a draft pick out on him. I know he is a tweener and has some question marks, but damn....pretty productive player to be signing as a UDFA

It's true. 1st time since 1937. However, all you Longhorns fans can take solace in the fact that Louisville had three 1st round picks in this years draft. The head coach of that team and the new head coach of the Horns is Charlie Strong.

Take pleasure now because we will soon see more talent being developed at UT I think.

Rumors going around that he was medically flagged and was removed from most teams draft boards, including ours.

LIke I said, its just rumors on some other sites going around but I think it may have some validity to it. Jeffcoat was talked about as being as high as a 3rd round pick before the draft and every team avoids him like the plague during the draft?

Doesn't make sense. Something scared everybody off.

it had to be pretty bad for NO one to even use a 7th on. He got VERY GOOD production at Texas.

Can't say I understand it either Burm. Even if he's not your favorite player at DE, he was worth a shot in the 7th IMO.

Here is a comparison of Jeffcoat and Marcus Smith (Phillies 26th pick overall, out of Louisville).

Season

Jeffcoat 2013 Games Started 13/13 Tackles 86 TFL-Yds 22-95 Sacks-Yds 13-75
Smith 2013 Games Started 13/13 Tackles 42 TFL-Yds 19 -124 Sacks-Yds 14.5-115

Career

Jeffcoat 2010-2013 Games Started 40/33 Tackles 203 TFL-Yds 60-226 Sacks-Yds 27.5-194
Smith 2010-2013 Games Started 45/32 Tackles 86 TFL-Yds 35-206 Sacks-Yds 24.5-185

If you look at this, either by Season or Career, I don't see how you can not say that Jeffcoat was not the more productive player. Further, how can you not see the logic in spending a 7th round pick on Jeffcoat? I just don't get it.

Mack is gone. The country club is shut down for good. Workouts are more intense. Practices are more intense. Strong is emphasizing size, speed, and physicality in his recruits. So no more scholarship handouts based on nepotism or proximity to Austin. He just needs to get his QB and Texas will be back. Can't wait till Heard gets on campus.

I really like the QB Zach Gentry from NM that just committed to us too. 6'7" 235 lb athlete with a big arm. And he's only 17. Pretty crazy.
