The world beyond basksetball will pay homage to Bill Russell today - and this week.
 
One of biggest NBA legends.
A much MUCH larger and best example of humanity outside the sport.

He was before my time. I never saw him play, but I've heard the stories. He was one of the greatest.

RIP...Champion.
 
The greatest champion in all of team sports was more than just a great champion and player , he was a great man.

His 11 NBA championships is unmatched along with his 2 NCAA championships and 1 Olympic Gold .

Bill grew up in a time when it was very difficult. He was at the March on Washington in 1963 for the I Have a Dream speech and backed Ali when the boxer refused military draft.

Russell was awarded the Medal of Freedom in 2011.
