Although I will acknowledge that Martellus Bennett is a stout blocker, he had just two more receptions than John Phillips did last year with Phillips coming off an injury.

I expect Phillips, who's not a bad blocker himself, to not miss a beat replacing Bennett and possibly improve the position if he returns to his preinjury form. He doesn't have Bennett's athletic ability, but he seems to work harder to get open, make catches, etc.

We need a No. 3 guy, but I have no doubts that Phillips will make us forget about Bennett as the No. 2. (Of course, as a receiver that's not really hard to do.)

All those sweeps and tosses we've been able to run to the strongside have been in large part because Marty was able to block down on the DE and cave him in.

I like Phillips but he cannot do that. He does not have that power.

We need an adequate replacement for an inline blocking TE.

In 2009, I was very pleased with Phillips' point-of-attack blocking. He might not have Marty's power, but he knows how to get in the right position and make the block. If he returns to that form (the biggest question mark), I have no concerns about him being able to make the blocks he has to.

For all the grief he gets on this board, he was one of the top blocking TEs in the league. That's not something that's easily replaced, and I wouldn't count on Philips alone to pick up the slack. Bennett was a useful player to have around. Hopefully we pick a guy up in the draft that brings some of those same skills.

I guess it all depends on what you want out of the 2nd TE position. I liked having the extra blocker, but another offensive target (particularly in the red zone) would be nice.

I think some of the slack will be picked up by Vickers. We ran well last season with a fullback in the game, and I think we'll see more two-back sets because of it.

He was -.5 in blocking grades according to PFF until the last three games of the season when he was auditioning for other teams and got his grade up to +7.8 He isnt as good as you people seem to try to make him just like Spencer

I will miss Martellus Bennett. Bennett was an extension of the offensive line. He was a great run blocker, and he will be missed, big time. The Cowboys need to find a way to replace his run blocking and pass blocking, imo. I hated to see him go, because I've seen his significant impact in the running game for the last 4 seasons. I hated to see the Giants get him, too.

Everybody wanted him gone..now that hes gone i see alot of:confused: Maybe he wasnt as bad as you thought?
