The piece on Kevin Smith Just struck me as ironic, uh, um, I mean coincidental, from SI:
"The knock on Smith is that while he is a tough, durable and productive back, he lacks the game-breaking speed that would vault him up the draft board."
That was the knock on Emmitt on draft day.

I would not mind a Kevin Smith in the 1st round.
But, someone answer me this:
If Jerra goes out for a McFadden or a Smith etc., why has he praised MB no end and called JJ a competitor who has great skills and practice?
He does not sound like a man who intends to inherit a very costly RB in the draft.

That tells me he thinks the MB and JJ tanddem can work. If it is smoke, then Jerra should go for the poor man's McFadden: Kevin Smith

It's interesting to me that sometimes I tell my buddies that the Cowboys need another RB, and it's so easily dismissed.

Not that Barber isn't a good back, but that you pretty much need 2 backs these days.

Smith will probably be an average back. It's a gimmick offense with a suspect line.

He gets topped behind, or at, the line a lot too. He'll only succeed in the right situation.

If he can gain 2600 yards behind a "suspect line", then I DEFINITELY want him on my team... LOL...

I recently saw a video clip of him, and it looks for the most part like he runs out of a classic I formation, more or less like Dorsett and Emmitt did... don't know what's so "gimmicky" about that...

Indeed, Smith was all but a one man team for UCF, and opposing defenses knew it, but he still put up those kinds of numbers... Central Florida averaged less than 180 yards per game passing, and Smith accounted for almost exactly 50 per cent of the team's total offense, gaining 2809 yards, and scoring 30 TDs...

And some of his best games were against the tougher competition, for example my beloved Longhorns... he gained 173 total yards against them (149 rushing, 24 on 1 reception), 53 per cent of their 326 yards of total offense...

Yes sir, I'd have no problems at all with the Boys bringing in a Kevin Smith, and going back to the I formation from their glory days... watching that highlight clip of him, he looked an awful lot like a taller Emmitt...

Smith is a very good back, no doubt about it. You don't put up that many yards and suck.

UCF's line was not "suspect" this year. Were they SEC or Big 10 quality? No, but they were experienced and have played together for a few years. One reason I think it was smart for Smith to leave early is that they are losing some of those linemen this year.

Conference USA is not known for defense. I'm an ECU fan, so I see a lot of those teams. Teams in that conference put up points, but few field good defenses.

I think Smith will have a productive career in the NFL. Personally, I don't think he is a good fit in Dallas with the offense we ran this year. I think he is going to need an o-line that that really dominates in run blocking.

With MB3, I think Chris Johnson (or a similar back) is the best compliment due to his speed and he has really grown and improved over the last 2 years. The BIG thing that CJ brings that Smith does not is immediate impact in the return game. CJ and Austin on kickoff returns would be very nice and CJ would be a HUGE improvement over Crayton returning punts.

We need a RB with speed and hands. Someone who can catch the ball out of the backfield and get you 6-10 yards.

Kevin Faulk is a great ingredient to the Pats. He gets overlooked, but he and Welker turn the chains consistently.

:) Yes it is shaping up that way!

good thing we have the draft between now and camp. Oh, then we have the QB camps, which should provide some fodder for we experts here.
