Mississippi State defensive coordinator Manny Diaz (right) and his wife arrived back in Starkville, Miss., moments ago on a flight from Austin after spending yesterday in discussions with Texas about the Longhorns’ defensive coordinator opening.
Diaz declined comment to a reporter in Austin about his visit with Texas coach Mack Brown before his flight departed. Upon arriving home, he also was tight-lipped, but did tell the Starkville Daily News he expects his status to be decided relatively soon.
Said Diaz:
“I’d imagine in the next couple of days this whole thing will get sorted out, one way or another.”

Is one year of success in the SEC worth the DC position at UT? I'm not sold! Yet.
Thoughts?

Sounds to me like he wants to bang the UT offer off Ole Miss and see if they will throw more money at him.

Not so sure. There are rumors circulating that Texas is sending down there Jet to bring his family back to Austin for further discussions, possibly as soon as today.

I was not really taking this rumor seriously but if this is true, this may be the guy for Texas. IDK. I still have my doubts.

I hope that UT has doubts as well. Leave him at Mississippi State. I`m a Bulldog fan and we would hate to see him go.

Very vague reply by Diaz. No way Ole Miss could get into a bidding war with Texas. Does his limited success = the DC at UT? If I'm Diaz, I wouldn't even pack my stuff from Starkvegas! I've been to Starkville, nothing there! I wouldn't leave Austin! I was also surprised at the laterial move by Davis from Alabama.

Ole Miss (University of Mississippi) is at Oxford, Mississippi State is at Starkville. Both small towns with good schools.

[. Both small towns with good schools.

HUH? I know! I live in MS! Hattiesburg the home of USM, I get it! I'm saying small towns good schools vs Big Texas Towns Great Schools!

It's all over the SEC Boards. Talk there is that he's a very, very good young Defensive Coach.

I have to trust Mack. I'm just not real sure about the one year of success. Smells like another Muschamp hire to me. Audition him for a year or two to be someone else's head coach.

You may be right 72 but looks like ESPN has confirmed.

I don't want another 'head coach in waiting' thing. I also don't want to see this guy in a year or two walk away to be another school's head coach. I hope Muschamp has success but I'd hate to see what could have been here at Texas! That's my fear of hiring a good young coach.

Looks as if it's too late now. BTW, CJ Johnson, 6th rated ILB in the Country has just decommited from MSU.

Where's he from? Wonder if he would follow Diaz?

He's from Philadelphia Mississippi and I don't know but he's gonna play somewhere. He was offered by LSU, Michigan, Ole Miss., Southern Miss, Tenn and Bama, in addition to MSt. Interestingly enough, Bo Davis recruited him at Bama.

The question would be, does Texas have a ship available?

Interestingly enough, Curtis Grant, the top ILB in the country has Bama at the top of his list. He's from Virginia. I wonder if that will change?

If I'm not mistaking, I think Texas has 2 left. Unless Mack has promised someone (past walk on) one. There has always been a method to Mack's madness. If all the offered ones get taken.
